The Rattle Poll

I'm interested in buying a G35 Sedan but I see a lot of rattle posts and I'm picky about interior noise. Hopefully you guys can answer this poll and help me make my decision especially those who are rattle free. Thanks.

My 03 doesn't rattle, but there are definitely some panel squeaks when going over washboard/rough surfaces or frost-heaved pavement. A few months back Motor Trend did an interior decibel test between the 06 BMW 3 series, 05 G35 sedan, and 05 Audi A4. Overall, the G generated quieter decibels that the 3-series, but there were many more decibel spikes. MT said the spikes were from rattles/squeaks inside.

The truth is the G35, like most Nissans, isn't put together like a Lexus/Toyota. The Gs aren't the best put together cars out there, but they are very reliable and they have something a Lexus doesn't.......a soul. It's all a trade-off. My father has a 03 Toyota Sienna which is touted as the "Lexus" of minivans and it does have quite a few rattles/squeaks.

I've had my 5AT Sedan for 7 months now and I have several rattles: center console/shifter, driver's and passenger's front doors, rear windows. Plan to get them all fixed when I go in for my 7500 mi service in the next couple weeks.

But I love the car and I'm confident the dealer will fix all of these (most are on TSBs) next time I'm in.

Good luck with your decision

I haven't ridden in a Lexus, but I'm sure there are some rattle issues if the Sienna has them, once again, NO car is absolutely quiet, and if anyone thinks the minor "noises" the G35 makes are limited to Infiniti, they are dreaming!

I will say my G isn't put together as well as my 96 Maxima. When I closed a door on the Maxima, it was a solid thud inside and out. The doors honestly felt they were curved from one piece. The G's exterior door handles creak when you pull up on them and when you shut the door, it's pretty clear the doors (panels, window glass, frame, etc) aren't nearly as secured. The doors don't rattle, but they're clearly not "vault-like". The Maxima did "crash' quiet a bit over moderate bumps and pavement cracks. The G doesn't do it nearly as bad. I think that has to do with the G's much stiffer body and 400lb heavier weight.

I plan to fix all rattles and squeaks myself. I've become quite good at pin-pointing noise areas. All it takes is a little felt tape.

Kinda agree, but I wonder how much of the solid thud sound from closing the door has to do with the G's windows going down slightly when the doors are open then once they are closed going back up. And rattles.... yes... horrid little suckers... Had one in my rearview.

- my 02.5 has never had a rattle in 51k miles
- once the brakes were replaced it became the best sedan I have ever owned for build quality, better than past BMW and Maxima, and on par with my old 911 for structural solidity
- i want a new one (interior, mechanical upgrades) but can't justify it!!!!

Yes, On my coupe the windows will go down about half an inch and then back up when door is closed. I thought it was strange when I first noticed it.
