But if you're talking about shifting or launching like a granny it took me about 2 weeks.
But my point of the post was that I went to drag strip before I learned how to launch the car properly.
First - I can't believe it took you a year to learn that.

Second - 3000 isn't too high - who would say that??

Third - a manual is much harder to launch *properly* than an automatic. My husband wasn't even that good at driving a manual and it only took him about a month to learn to launch that car. I wasn't talking about launching like a granny - I have logged a whole lot more miles on a manual than an automatic since I started driving and "granny launching" takes about 2 hours to learn

Don't worry man, you have nothing to prove to someone who runs a 15.1 in an Automatic G35.

It took me a few days and about 20 launches to learn how to launch this car, it was not my first manual, but if you give this car too much juice, the VLSD just slips and you loose all your power off the line. I agree 3000 is a perfect RPM to launch at. I raced an Altima SE-R yesterday on the way to school, (3000RPM and slipping the clutch) I took off by about a half car length and pulled at least 2 car lengths by middle of second gear (he was auto). If you put most of these auto drivers in a 6 speed they will eat turd on a track.

Ok if you're first car was a G35 6MT I can guarantee you that you are not going to be able launch the car without any jerks in 2 hours. If you could then you're something special. I'm sure every new MT driver will agree with this with me.
I wish you lived closer to CA so we could go to the dragstrip or in the canyons and I would show some lessons about driving a manual car *properly*. And Im 99% sure that if you get the same car, 6MT that is, I will get better #s at the track than you will.

It really does amaze me how many people think the coupe is faster than the sedan. Based on what? Looks? Pure ignorance.

Been over this before. Sedan weighs less. Has better coefficient of drag. Smaller (lighter) wheel/tire combo.

Stock for stock, AT for AT and MT for MT, technically a sedan is slightly faster than it's coupe counterpart. Ever, ever so slightly. This is based on fact.

Not to start a new debate... or hijack this thread... but many Z owners think our sedans can be walked all over.
I had a Z driver looking in his rear view mirror for me after a quick take-off from a light only to realize that I was beside him. He pushed it harder and was able to get a couple car lengths on me. At the next light he wouldn't look my way and then we both punched it and I was trying a little harder this time and kept within 1-1/2 car lengths before the next light. This time he looked at me... I smiled... and then he turned left abruptly without signalling when the light turned green.

Don't get me wrong, my first car was a Z and I've been on the track with 350Z's and totally respect the car they are and were meant to be.

I made my decision to purchase a G35 based solely on my experiences with my brother's '04 6MT G35 Sedan. When we went hunting for a G35 . . . He said to me, "Get the Coupe. We can trade off."

Ding! Ding! That didn't sound like a bad idea. The rest is history.

I don't really think any of us has anything to prove. I think most of us are a little beyond that.

I have no idea what his time was - I was commenting simply on the time involved in learning to launch it. By his own statement compared to what you said his was longer. There isn't anything to it either way, I was just somewhat shocked. Everyone is entitled to their opinions.

Alright I will give you that this clutch is a bit more difficult than most. I wasn't referring to launching for speed. To use your term I was referring to the granny launch for that 2 hour window. I was also assuming this wasn't your first manual tranny. Personally I would not try to learn to drive one or teach someone on a car this expensive - but that's just me.

As for the teaching lessons on driving - stop talking out of your @$$. You don't know me any more than I know you. I wouldn't make a statement like that considering I don't know you. Don't assume since I am female that I can't drive - it makes you look stupid. Would I beat you? I have no idea since I have never seen you drive. I have no idea what your numbers even were. I was referring *only* to your comment on how long it took you to learn to launch. I would hope at this point you were good at it.

Everyone has their opinion, I agree, but there are somethings that are just facts.
BTW I didnt respond the way I did just because you are a female.
I would have respond the same way if it was a male.
Anyway lets just get over it. I said what I had to say and you said what you had to say.
Lets not make this into a "argument".
Good Luck.

I think that's the attitude of many (not all) coupe and Z owners.... in general there's a lack of respect for the sedan from them.

During the summer I was out with my buddy's friend who owned a 350Z, he was surprised at how quick my sedan was... it's virtually the same car...

It's not that some G Coupe or Z owners have a lack of respect for the Sedans . . . It's simply that some people have a lack of respect PERIOD! . . . And unfortunately, some of these people just happen to G Coupe and Z owners.
