I'm new to the forums and just wanted to say whats up to everybody. I'm enjoying reading about the G so far (although I don't have one yet).
I do have a question though, What other cars did you consider/test drive before buying the G? My lease is ending soon on my current car and I'm considering (strongly) the G, but I'm also going to look at the BMW 3, Mercedes, and the Audi A4. Anyone driven any of these vehicles? What was good/bad?
Thanks in advance and look forward to the info.

Most of the debate is on the BMW 330i vs G35 and the new Lexus IS350. Car magazines have also recently done comparo's with these cars. Basically, the G35 is the best bang for the buck. Cars that are rated higher, cost quite a bit more.

Welcome. I wanted AWD, which limited my choices. We already have a Subaru LL Bean Outback (wagon). I had an earlier A4 (about 1996) for less than 3 years and it was in the shop much more total time than my previous Infiniti G20 and the I30 that replaced the Audi combined, (about 10 car years) so I wasn't looking for another Audi. The G35 is a great car.

I just finished shopping and settled on the G. I test drove every damn thing I could. Merc 240 & 320, Audi A4,A6, and used S4, BMW 325xi, Acura TL,TSX, Maxima's Altima's, Accords .. etc .. Tried everything. The new TL's were close but for that kinda cash, and the fact that it seems everyone has one, torque steer, etc. ruled out TSX not enough room in back for the children especially the Baby seat .. and the others well Audi to many issues with electrical systems and other things try carfaxing an A6 and not finding one that hasn't been in the shop a ton at very close intervals .. not cool. A4 to small. BMW way to small, but friggin sweet ride the 330i almost had me, but over vehicle cost of ownership whoa .. And all the rest well, just don't have the feel and fit of the G not to mention the torque and handling. Plus the major decision maker, the wife friggin luv'd the thing coudln't pry her hands of the wheel. And no one around my neck of the woods drives one. Compliments galore had it a month and everywhere I go looks and praises. Best thing is drive drive drive .. everything you think you like and few you think you don't, and do as many on the same day as possible. Carfax and Consumer reports memberships along with MSNauto, car and driver, auto trend, all good search spots for info to ease the mind and help make guided decisions. Well worth the membership fee's.
In addition to the cars you already mentioned, you might check the Acura TL, the A6, possibly the new Passat, Lexus IS, and maybe the Subaru Legacy or the STi depending on which side of sport / luxury you're falling toward.
