Scored a Win/Tie with a Mustang GT

Ok still excited.

Car was warm after running around for weekend at beach tommorrow and had a case of Corona in the trunk, 5 open windows, radio low and AC off with VDC on since rain had occurred 4-5 hrs ago and it was 99.9% dry. I have 7 wire grounding from z extreme and injen intake on 5AT....and Turanzas.

I can turn right off main street in my town and go for 1.5 miles over a river with no lights and only one ramp on/off half way. No one in front or back. I go to make the curb guided right onto bridge and see, hear rather a stang 25-35 feet behind me going straight through intersection. He sees me at that point and i hear him punch it. Now I had just gotten straight and could floor it w/o vdc kicking in and it did not.

SO he comes right up to my rear quarter FAST as he has momentum and I see him in my side mirror and he gets all the way into my blind spot and my motor starts that beautiful injen roar...now hes staying right there and i can tell hes got auto cuz hes smooth all the way...we are right there next to each other and we get mirror to mirror and he almost has me...sorta.....now in 3rd at 5000 rpm and I AM FREAKING PULLING AHEAD ...he goes into my blind spot again and appears in mirror for a second..now deep into fourth and he pulls hard as I hit 100. Ford v-8 finally has me now and goes about 3-4 car lengths by 120. Traffic ahead and I brake and go buy him light or two later.....hes not happy and wont even look at me...i peace him and get the vodka we forgot earlier...been drinking pearl for you califoirnians...

Damn that was fun..

Re: Scored and Win/Tie witha Mustang GT

Now if I had just remembered to reset ECU in the last 1200 miles...i've been on a 4th of july trip across PA into columbus since i reset.

Yes I have automajic or lets say autotrajic...I think our Tripin'-tronic sucks. But since I tend to use it to hold gears around town it was in M mode when I heard the 4.6 roar. The problem without resetting ECU is you lose almost all control over gears and shifting is so slow. I suggested 2-3 at 5800 and it shifted at the limiter, then 3-4 I was al little more pleased and got the desired 4 at 6500 or so. At that point muscle was beating refinement.

Now that I am 12 hrs removed I think i realized I actualy lost sinc he got me at 110 or so but hey. No ecu reset and i beat him 1/4 mile which is great considering he was first to punch it....amazing timing though for us to end up neck in neck - couldn't have staged it better.

It was great fun and I was stunned that I held him when he was charging from behind...and when i pulled away in third I was loving life...this is where every electron the wire kit can offer is needed and works so well. Shifts would be much lamer without kit..thanks zextreme.

Re: Scored and Win/Tie witha Mustang GT

Try reseting your ECU more often. I do my Coupe now about every 2 weeks with great results.
Once you do the 'easy ecu reset' once or twice, it's easy to do.
Good kill (sort of) on the 'Stang. Do you think from a stop he may have pulled slightly with more torque? Sounds like once your revs rose, yu pulled him-- hp kicked in and you had better gearing (at least 5 cogs to his 4, not sure about his rear ratio) My stock '94 was 3:08, with 3:27 optional.( I swapped in a 3:73!)
Up at 100 or so, Cubic torque edged you but like you said, that may have been after the 1/4 was over.
Would be an interesting D/race. From what i've heard that 'Stang is about the same in the quarter, give the edge to the better driver.
Would be interesting if you reset your ECU and raced him again. lol
Zxtreme's Grounding Kit rocks. Improvements very noticable on mine.

Re: Scored and Win/Tie witha Mustang GT

I'd love to do it again from a stop...his light *** and my crappy tires would make for a fun spin and roll. I didn't see him but for that millisecond i looked over and he was starting to go - just saw that he had fat 245's or so and must be a GT cuz of noize. Then i had to drive so i was looking for him in mirror and he was coming hard but that was right when i was in second - its hard to say if I had any distance advantage at the early stage, but when we were side by side It was so close from say 45-95....for a while in fact there was dead even charging..no variation from the 2 cars in acceleration...that kinda neat..and then I got away.

I would say with my cars tendancy to wait to get fast - a little 1 second turbo lag feel in a non-turbo - it's going to get a car length or even 2 behind the stang early and then it may be tough. My start from ahead was cheating but when he was charging like deion sanders I thought my v6 was going to look pretty bad and I prob wouldn't have worried as he does have v8 with momentum...My reflexes and fortunante timing were as good as i could imagine them for a non racer...thats my second race since feb...

Stock ones are 3.27 for all mustang motors except mach one gets a 3.55. My 5 gears is prob an advantage that i negated with msuhy shifter. I do make a point of restting just haven't gotten to it lately...will do before we head to beach this am.

I think i like my car more every payment i make. And i financed EVERTHING even rubber mats registration and taxes.

what's up!? Good kill bud! Stangs arent that great! Basically, our V6 gave a BIG V8 work. Awesome job. How do you do the easy ECU reseting? I know about unplugging the battery for 12 hours. Is there another way?

Re: Scored and Win/Tie witha Mustang GT

Anyone who thinks Stangs aren't all that great needs to pickup a recent 5.0 or MMFF magazine....Stangs are the original mod heaven. For $800 I can take a new GT and run low 13's all day. So that would be 23,800+800= 24600 that would be about 8K less than my G (and I paid 500 over invoice). I love my G, but for out and out power and running the 1/4 or the road course, I will take my stang any day.....Different car for a different purpose....

I know you'll hate me, but...
Ran my GT and Cobra against my G...
G lost, but with no big surprise-- the GT is a soft-top V8 with a helluva pull, but the G is 1000x nicer drive. As usual, I switched drivers after 3 rounds on controlled pavement to make sure... not a driver issue, just a big difference in class of car. I would gladly never drive the GT or Cobra again, though, as the G35 is just a much, much, much, much nicer car in every respect.

Actually the Mustang GT's 4.6L V8 is putting out numbers very close to that of the G35 IIRC...260hp and probably more torque.

Definitely, but torque and weight are two pretty big issues when doing this kind of comparison. Let me go on the record as saying again-- I'd gladly give up my GT and cobra (not my SHO-- to many memories) for another G ... now if it only came in a convertible...

Re: Scored and Win/Tie witha Mustang GT

Stangs are s---boxes... my brother has one and it drives like xs---x.. no comparison at all to the G35 drive. If all you are looking for is straightline acceleration get a motorcycle there is no beating it.

Re: Scored and Win/Tie witha Mustang GT

I wouldn't go as far as to say they're "s---boxes", but rather that they're a different class of car entirely that shouldn't even be mentioned in comparison to a G35 unless you're talking about speed.
Yes, they're Fords, and yes, they're made for speed and seat-of-your-pants driving, but they're also a great thrill to drive if you know what you're doing.
I buy cars for specific purposes, and I try to avoid 's---boxes'. The GT and Cobra are "beat the hell out of them, but have fun in the process" cars... so far, so good.
