Exclamation Clear Bra: 3m versus Clear Shield

Anyone have any thoughts on the differences between these manufacturers?
Anyone seen both products and could tell a difference?

I am being quoted half the price (from a very reliable company) for Clear Shield versus the 3M product. Unbelievable that 3M is gouging for their product that much. Talking about install of $1100 or $550. big difference.

I would also be interested in some info on this. That seems like a big price difference!

Pricing on clear bras is not based totally on the kind of film used, but also type of coverage and expertise of the installer. What it comes down to is that if you don't have a good installer doing it, nothing is going to look good. That's where the difference in pricing comes into play. You get what you pay for. Give "Wil" on this forum a holla, they're the best at this and can answer any of your questions.

Hmm... I paid $500 for the 3M install - bumper, hood, side mirrors. I went online to www.xpel.com and queried them about installers in my area.

Not sure what the entire job on mine cost, the dealer threw in the nose mask on the hood when I bought my '05, but it cost me $250 for the rest of the front bumper, 3M Certified shop, $1100 is too much IMO!

Cost can vary widely depending on location and installers. Generally, the higher priced installation facilities do higher quality work. Here are some pics of a Carrera GT with the entire car wrapped with our new high-grade urethane ultra clear film.

Just to give you an example of pricing, on the coupes' precut kits, we charge $650, $290 for the entire hood, $290 for custom application.........it all depends on what type of coverage you're looking for and the experience of the installer

I have used different types of film and have installed 3M films myself. But this time I went with Llumar film due to the fact its more transparent than the other films 3M makes. But I will make a complain on the Llumar, it scratches very easy.

There are limitations to all films......installation truly is the key. The film is meant to be waxed and should not peel up O.E. paint if removed.

My shop recommended VentureShield by venturetape over 3m. He showed me pictures of 3m and venturetape and 3m showed more distortion. BTW he carried both venturetape and 3m and is certified for both brands. He also said that 3m only has a 5 yr warranty and that they often dispute warranty claims, where as ventureshield has a lifetime warranty and they never question his request for warranty work.

i had originally installed 3m from the dealer, when my car got into an accident i had my entire front end clear bra reaplced since the guy around here used ventureshield and i must tell you, the difference is night and day....the 3M is thicker and less transparent, it also turns yellow over time according to my guy and it is a bitch to remove, he claims the adhesive is the problem with colour and transparanciy issues. the venture shield stays on, but comes off clean when it has to

NO 3M, go ventureshield, they just developed a newer film which is easier to wrk with and more clear.

installer is 95% of the equation

My car has had 3M on the Bumper and Part of the hood since 2003. Still looks good to me. Can hardly tell its there. Does anyone know if you should have it replaced after a certain timeframe, or just whenever it starts to look bad>?

Proper maintenance is also important. Neglecting the film will make it look hazy over time. We also use Venture, but would not say it's the "best" film.....again, there are limitations to all film. Venture has plenty of quality control issues, which makes it very difficult for us dealers to install when it comes to installing it on high-end vehicles............this is the reason, we do not use Venture on exotics anymore.
