SUV bully
The other night after merging on to the turnpike, I see fairly bright HID's coming up fast in my mirror - the vehicle rides my tail briefly, then merges into the left (totally clear) lane and gets on it. I recognize the vehicle now X-5 4.6 is - distiguishable by the subtle "lower" body moldings, 20:inch rims, and Dual "Oval" exhaust - and that freaking sound they make - they have a much more aggressive exhaust note. So I dip into the VQ - 75, 80, 90 that X-5 is still pulling away 100, he 's no longer pulling, 110 VQ is starting to reel his @ss in, 112 hazards come on - come to POPA - 120 these engines have guts on the high end because I'm gaining on him fast I looked at the speedo as I pass him I'm at a buck 30. I pulled about two car lengths, and was still pulling hard - I decided to let off and he jets by. That BMW V8 is no joke, for an SUV to run like that is almost insane - in case your wondering the X5 4.4i sport nor the 4.6is have the 130mph govenor - they don't shut down to 150 or so. If I see a Turbo Cheyenne - I will most certainly yield.

Re: SUV bully
The FX will beat the X5 off the line, but not the Porsche. Infiniti owned the bragging rights to the fastest SUV for about two months, til the Porsche came along. The FX the best damn SUV out there, if you ask me... and I'm not saying that because I have one.
I convinced a BMW-lover to get one yesterday... he said it's a more fun drive, and the comfort rating is through the roof- I was in the X5 with him and its backseat is like a leather-wrapped bench.

Nice kill. You've go b@lls hitting the speeds you did. I have only taken my G to 100, and it was just for fun. Our cars definitely pull hard at those speeds, and they definitely want to keep going.

Re: SUV bully
VW Toureg with Audis 4.6 305 hp is going to be fun to run with too. They may put a w-12 in it at some point i heard too. Thats a wierd motor - if anything like w-8 I'll say no. w-8 can't run with VQ35.

Re: SUV bully
Has anyone driven the Nissan Murano? How does it compare to the G35?
The Murano also has the VQ engine (same as G35, Altima, Maxima) and puts out 245hp.
Since it is based on the VQ, I imagine there will be a lot of aftermarket parts (twin turbo, supercharger, etc.) just as there are for the Nissan cars.
Murano would be the only SUV I'd consider (not a big fan of the FX). South Florida is becoming totally conjested with SUVs and I'm getting really tired of being stuck behind them in my car without being able to see what's going on up ahead.
Going with the Murano would give me the awesome G35 engine with the ride of a sports SUV.

I don’t think the CVT tranny in the Nissan Murano can handle additional power from a supercharger or turbos.

hot4carz-
I did a write-up of the Murano, FX, and RX 330 about a month ago- it's in Off Topic, I'll look for it.
The Murano was slightly out-classed in that group, however it's a great SUV for the money... Nissan just sort of put half an effort into the interior, and the drive felt underpowered (the CVT is a first-generation, a couple bugs to work out). I got the FX, but if I hadn't wanted to shell out and extra $10k, I'd definitely have gotten the Murano.
