Auto/manual shifting question...
Auto/manual shifting question...
I generally drive in automatic but its fun to kick it over and shift manually. How much wear and tear does it put on the car (pushing it to 6000 rpm)? Is it something that shouldn't be done much or can you do this often without hurting the cars performance in the long run? By switching it up all the time between automatic and manual, am I messing up the transmissions general rhythm at all? I'm a newbie to automotive detail here and I appreciate any tips. The G35 made me discover my love for cars!!! Thanks.
Re: Auto/manual shifting question...
As long as you don't constantly hit the redline, it is perfectly safe to use the manual (or max gear) mode as much as you like. I prefer to us it while in heavy traffic, or just to keep the rpm's up while having a little fun (I will not call it racing, since that would be politically incorrect) on the highway. Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're fine, even if you hit the rev limiter. Of course, it isn't great to always be at high-RPM but there's nothing wrong with redlining it. Just change your oil religiously.
