With most upgrades from year to year, the car manufacturers are somewhat justified in saying that they make improvements from year to year, and that any model you buy will probably become better in the near future.

But in this case, they upgraded the G35 in 05 except for the X. And no one can justify a reason why. Now, to upgrade the brakes on the 06X, when they should have been done in 05, gives 05 owners like myself a legitimate gripe.

That doesn't make sense, that is the main reason I traded my '04 on my '05, better brakes.

When you guys say better brakes, you should say better "feel" of the brakes. The 04 brakes actually outpreform the 05 brakes by about 10 feet in a stop from 60.

I would say it is likely the pads, my guess is Infiniti used a more friendly pad and increased the rotor size to compensate for the difference. I think the 04 brakes were "grabby" because of the pads, and the 05 are more relaxed now....

I blame the media....seriously.
Everywhere i read, g35- no changes for 06. I test drove the 05x about 4 times and logged lots of hours in the interior at the showrooms, was looking at the car for over 3 months. I hadn't driven or stepped inside an 06 until i picked it up, but since then im noticing lots of little changes.(and some not so little)

FWIW, it pained me to pick up the 06, i only got it since there were no more navi equipped x cars in the tri state area, believed me i looked, i left deposits at 2 dlrs to find me an 05x navi car, they both couldnt do it.

Reason i was looking so hard for the 05 was the crazy deals on that car.(1500 below invoice, super low MF) By my calcs, im paying over 1700 dollars over the course of my lease from getting an 05 to an 06, and i negotiated my 06 down to invoice. So sure the changes sound great, but they are hardly free.

And if this is true, the 06 X should also have 2-piston calipers as opposed to the single piston calipers on the 05

What? I far as I know all the calipers are the same over the years, coupe and sedan (not including Brembos). Only the brackets/carriages changed with the rotors and pads.

Hmmm, I thought the '05 had twin piston calipers? Not sure where I read that, or heard it. At any rate, the '06 X and '05-'06 Sedan now have the same brakes.

First is off my '05, second was my '04 (both Sedans). Definitely diffrent calipers, not just pads.

I cannot believe I never noticed that. Yep my 05 G35X has 1 piston on the front calipers. Now I feel even more burned. I never realized that the 05 rotor size increase for all the other models also included the upgrade to 2 piston calipers. Again no literature ever noted that the calipers also were changed. Bummer for me. Well next time anyone with a 05-06 or 06 X goes to a "big brake" kit sell your old stuff to me cheap.
Thanks for the pics.

I don't understand why you're so bummed. The older brake system actually stops the car shorter than the revised brake system! However, the revised system gives a better feel. Not so grabby. Also, with the change of pad material in the 05 x's, the pad life has been increased. Mine has 16K miles on her and has only used 3mm of the 10mm that it starts out with.

Well, I may not be "as bummed" as Johnaldertech, but the point is that the X was the only model excluded from what I call a significant upgrade in 05, and Infiniti obviously "corrected" that in 06. I, like other 05X buyers was told that there were no real changes for the 06 year. That was incorrect.

I love the feel of my 05 brakes, so I'm ok with it. But if you look at the pics, the newer brakes are obviously better.

Is it really true that the 05's stop better? That surprises me.

That is much better than the '04, guess they did change the pad material, what percentage of your driving is city? I'm with DP03, I don't get why the X was excluded from the bigger brakes in '05, regardless if they changed the pads, and then they did it for '06, weird corporate BS I guess!

i have a 05x and brought it in for annoying tsbs. the squeaks and rattles, the rear windows and my front end was creaking like an old lady. All in all u can say im pretty disappointed with my purchase. i love the car to death. it handles great in all weather conditions and its quick. although i am really surprised that this car makes more interior noise and front end noise then my 87 cutlass supreme. Oh yeah my point is that my loaner in an 06x. it does have larger brakes..u can see the rotors are bigger for one..and i asked the tech. He confirmed it for me. The 06x has the larger brakes on it. They seem to take alot less effort to stop the car. If the price wasnt outrageous id upgrade it to them.
