G35 crash test on TV!
G35 crash test on TV!
Today (Saturday 7/26) on The History Channel show Modern Marvels, they featured The Technology of Crash Tests. I'm watching the show and they're reviewing the propulsion system that sends the cars into the walls. The shape of the car catches my eye - it's a G35 Sedan! The show then reviewed the placement of the dummy in the G35 and the deployment of the airbags. Unfortunately, they never mentioned the make/model of the car since it wasn't the point of the show. Of course, as far as I was concerned, the program may as well been called "Hey - A G35 Is On TV Show." Anyway, after they put the dummy into the car, they propelled it into a big cement angled wall. All the airbags deployed and the engineers ran over to assess the damage. "Basically, what we see here is pretty good," the engineer said. "The airbags have protected the driver and the structural integrity of the car has been maintained, despite the crash." After that, the show moved on to other aspects of crash test technology but, pretty cool eh? Nice to know that they used the G as a good example of a car engineered for safety and structural strength. Now if they could just really come up with a "G35 On TV Show," I'd be a happy man!

Re: G35 crash test on TV!
consumer reports had it good. also not to bad to repair front and rear bumpers from minor crashes.
to be a consumer reports "recommended" car, you have to have to safety ratings. thats where some of the bmw's and the like missed out.

BMW and Mercedes have really lost in terms of reliability over the past few years.
Let's hope the G does not fare the same.

The NHTSA just tested the 350Z, and it got 5 stars all around (4 stars for passenger). I imagine the G35's would be similar. Here's the link:

Here is a link to the Japan crash test for the 2.5 L Skyline 250GT, which I believe is the same body and chassis of the USA G35 sedan albeit without the 3.5L VQ. Note it did not have side air bags.
