2006 g35x stock rim problem?
2006 g35x stock rim problem?
washed my week old 06 g35x for the first time and have a couple of questions re: the stock rims... are the rims only finished on the surface... ie, beyone the lip i noticed that there are a bunch of black dots (more of an unfinished area)... i also noticed a consistent pattern of nicks and scratches on all rims (down to a black colour)... i havent hit anything... (i thought that it may be the straps that are used when transporting the cars)...

Its funny you should ask this question. I just spent the past hour messing with my spare wheel, and jack.

Who on earth designed the jack compartment in the trunk!? It took me 20 minutes, a mirror, and a flashlight to get the jack stowed back in there. I *hope* its mounted in there properly. If you take the jack out, pay close attention to its orientation!

The spare rim on my car is similar to what you describe. I see a very fine mist of black spots on the inside of the rim. If I recall correctly, the black coating is an undercoating on the wheel. If you scratch the finish, you should expose a black, and then a white layer underneath the metallic finish. I imagine these spots are due to a spray (or lack thereof) in the wheel finishing process. I wouldn't worry about them, as long as the face of the wheel is in good condition.
As for the scrapes you mentioned, I don't see any of these on my wheels. I inspected three of them visually on the car, and took a good close look at the one I took off (thanks to a screw it picked up). Where are the scratches? On the outside face of the rim, or the inside? You should take digital pictures and bring it up with your sales consultant immediately if they're on the face of the rim. There shouldn't be any scratches anywhere from handling. I don't know this for sure about Infiniti, but generally whenever I've transported a car, I strap down the axle, not the wheel.
