Cool 2005 G35 Sedan 6M _ Tranny Problems?

Hi All

This is my first thread. Got my G in April and love it, but I am experiencing an intermittent odd tranny noise. When decelerating without the use of the brakes (i.e. just coasting in gear) the tranny can give off a really loud sound almost like it’s grinding. Can really hear it at low speeds and it goes away if I engage the clutch, that why I think its the tranny. It seems to get louder in lower gears too? Anyone out there experience the same thing?

I checked the service bulletins and recalls but there is nothing like this.

Would really like to hear from someone before I take it to the dealer

Thanks,

Bookman

I don't experience anything like that when decelerrating. However, when I'm stopped and in neutral, with some reflective surface around(such as in a drive-thru), I hear something that sounds like a set of coins rolling around in a can. When I press the clutch, it goes away.

Again, not sure if it's the same thing.

My 6mt does something similar. I am taking the car in for service next week and will have it checked out. Will report back on diagnosis when completed.

bookman1, I don't have your sound, but I have the same sound as Trey. I think the sound Trey and I have is the throwout bearing, I think I remember reading that somewhere. Also, anyone notice that it's sometimes difficult to get it into 3rd gear, like I have to put more pressure on the stick once in a while.

maybe you are talking about decelerating from 2nd into 1st gear? first gear is a low gear and makes a winding noise when slowing down. Reverse does the same if you punch the gas while backing up

Would bet heavy $ it's your throwout bearing TH. Not an indication of a problem however, but get it checked anyway 04' G35X, Brilliant Silver,"Padded" (Metal Matrix) by Stillen" "Full 'X' Cat-Back" by Stillen, "Aloomie Pedals" by Inf., "Popped" by Wolf, "Pullied" by UR,"Tubed" by Z,"D-Badged" by me, "Clear Cornered" by JDM, 05' "Tails" by Inf., "Tall Boy Plenum" by APS, well "Grounded" by Gordgee

Thanks for the feedback guys, thinking more about it I wonder if it could be something vibrating like a loose heat shield?? Could make sense as once I hit its nature vibrating frequency (@4000rpm) it starts making noise, and when I engage the clutch, the vibration stops, and hence the noise. Hmmmm..

Just a hunch
