Help! I can't get my 6MT into 5th gear

This just happened to me this morning, started driving to work and everything is working fine, after about 10 miles I can't get the trans into 5th. I get to work and park, then went through all the gears with the car running then with the car off. I finally got it into 5th but not without some force and now it seems like that's the only it's gonna go, is if I force it . I will of course call the dealer but I just wanted to see if anybody else ever had this problem.

Cr@p, I guess I'm the only one this has ever happened to!!

BTW - As I was driving home today I tried a few more time to get in in 5th, with no luck, then I tried one more time when accelerating onto the highway and plop, it fall right into gear just like normal without any force. Now the car is shifting completely normal. WTF! Anyway I made an appt. to get it checked out, I'll probably get the "it works fine for me" answer

^+1 wierd. Mine was a little funky once after getting my short shifter installed. There is a guide plate under a triangular shaped rubber boot that has 3 bolts 2 of mine had backed out causing a rattle and screwed up my shift pattern a bit. It may not be your problem but you might want to check it. Somone sent me a link on how to get to it some time ago. Try a search under shifter install maybe? Good luck.

A friend of mine had this happen on his 05 6mt. I can't remember the resolution but the dealer repaired it under warranty. You aren't the only one apparently.

I've read of a few with this issue lately. I'd say it's either a bad syncro-ring or mis-aligned linkage.

Warranty.

Next time it happens try shifting from 4th to 6th and then downshift to 5th and see whether there is a problem

It's currently at the dealer, they are checking it out. When I told the service guy that it seems to be working now he was like "oh...well we'll have someone look at it", then he asked me if I was pushing the clutch all the way down, duh!. So I have my doubts that they will find anything or even investigate it, might be one of those the tech couldn't find anything now go away.
