Is this a good deal?

I am looking at a Auto leather G-35 sedan that the sales manager was using as a demo. I haven't seen it yet but it's supposed to have 3k miles on it and looks brand new. In fact it will be titled as a new car. It has all options except for the NAV system, including Premium pkg, sport suspension, winter pkg, full aero dyn body kit. MSRP is $37,250 and Invoice price is $33,298 (Edmunds.Com). They are asking $33,954. What would be a fair price for this 3k mile demo car? I can tell from talking to the sales guy that they are willing to move from the asking price, but that's obvious. The question is what can I reasonably expect to get them down to?

Thanks

it seems hat people are getting auto sedans for between 500-1000 over dealer invoice. that is brand new, not demo. i'd offer 1500 below invoice.

I concur, you should be able to buy a new car, non demo for that price

Demo cars and "yanks" (deals that fell through) are sold as new because they are legally still classified as new as no title has changed hands...$1500 below invoice won't happen- they'll tell you that they can prove perfect maintentance, regardless of the miles put on it...They'll even brag about the car being perfectly broken in for you...Sad, but true...But walking in there with that offer will give you a great starting point...

Out of the question. Dont get duped by this dealer. Firslty it's an 03 model which in a months time will be considered old since the 04 will be out. Secondly if its a demo he should offer you at least 1500 below invoice and don't go for the bull they give you about taking care of it. Let me tell you if it was used for a test drive it was played with, and they will tell you no it wasn't , but you never know.

Re: Is this a good deal?

Look for a really good deal on this demo ride. With 04's around the corner, 03's will be going at invoice easily, so a demo with 3K miles (heavily accelerated miles) should go for significantly less. If it were me, I'd start at $2K below invoice and try to settle at $1200-1500 below. Otherwise I'd try to get into a new non-demo car with the same options for invoice, or $500 above.

BTW the market is beginning to suck for dealers again (good for you), but it's the beginning of the month, dealers tend to deal best close to the end of the month (when quotas, goals and commissions need to be made).be attained.

Good luck with your wheeling and dealing!

Re: Is this a good deal?

MSRP... manufacturers' suggested retail price (self-explanatory)
Invoice... what the dealers actually purchase the car for.

Hope this helps...aa

Re: Is this a good deal?

Apperently it was the Sales Managers car. They have never titled the car so the warrenty will start when I take it over and will not include the first 3k miles. Again, the price they have is what they are advertising not what I have been able to bargain so far. I am thinking $500 - $1,000 below invoice is realistic. I know they will haggle because the internet sales manager I spoke to pretty much said "we're willing to work with you".

Re: Is this a good deal?

month end deals:
when i was starting my shopping, a bmw dealer said month end saturdays are crazy. everyone feels they could get the best deal then.
it is a mix. each manufacturer has a cut-off date where they charge for floor space (also know as interest on cars dealers ordered). trick is knowing each dealers.

if ordering car, my theory is that it is best to order day before or of allotment day. dealers are often allotted certain number of dealership (not specific to a particular customer) orders. however, if it is for a specific custormer, it is a different story.

i ordered mine over phone to dealer i never went to. did so on order day. got 6mt at 1000 off msrp. was easy sale for dealer. quick order, no test drive, etc......

Re: Is this a good deal?

Here's my salesperson response to me telling him I would be looking to pay $1k-$2k under invoice for a "used" G-35.

"$33,954 (there asking price) is actually below invoice for the car (not true according to Edmunds.Com). It also has the "autobahnd" 3-M treatment for the hood and bumper (anybody else have that?) which has a value of $595 but is included free of charge.
We have that other garnet sedan equipted exactly as you wish if you prefer but not at invoice + $500 (which is what I told him I would pay for a new G-35). I could deliver either by Mon. Let me know your thoughts, OK? (I did!)

Re: Is this a good deal?

Their little hood and bumper treatment is not valued at $595...That's retail cost to the customer...It probably cost between $120 and $180...You can ask them what their cost was- if they're trustworthy they'll have no problem telling you what it was...Especially since that doesn't mean that you're going to get it for their cost...Other than that, I thought the invoices were around $28K to $30K, depending on how well-equipped the vehicle? Just what I've seen...

Re: Is this a good deal?

Geez, you could get a new car for that price with Navigation. Go check some of the other threads about pricing that were last active in the last 2-3 weeks. I mentioned that I got my fully loaded 6MT without aero for $32900. That included Nav.

Re: Is this a good deal?

Your pricing includes the regular aero pkg, a $550 MSRP / $474 Invoice pricing. The car I am looking at has the Aero Dynamic Body Kit, $2,910 MSRP / $2,360 Invoice. That's why the price is so much higher
