Black Streaks on Wheels

Only 4,000 miles on my 2005 AWD and at the car wash today I asked the attendant to take another shot at the front wheels 'cause they still had black streaks on them. Turns out it looks like the "finish" is coming off the wheels revealing a black surface below. 'Cmon . . . only 4,000 miles.

Has anyone else encountered this problem with their wheels?

Nope, it doesn't appear to be damage. It truly looks like the finish is just coming off the at the edge of the spokes.

I have around the same mileage as you and I have yet to notice the marks.
Nonetheless, sorry to hear.

Can you post pictures?

I'm thinking *maybe* it might be that someone used a wheel cleaner that isn't safe for clear-coated wheels?

I read a post in a canadian forum about someone at an Infiniti dealer doing this to a guy's car! It took several pages of rants and calls before the dealer finally got the attendant to fess up to it.

Definitely could be the type of cleaner they are spraying on your wheels.

^^WHS^^
I agree with the above posts.
There have been several instances of this type of problem & the wrong cleaning product.
I remember one member getting a claim from a car wash that was using the wrong cleaner.

if its what I think your talking about there are other posts here about it. I have the same problem. The silver paint was never fully applied to the wheel over the black primer.

Black Streaks on Wheels

OK, let's assume it's the cleaner used by the car wash. A car wash that washes 100's, 1000's of cars using the same cleaner on all of them, including several other of my cars over the years. And only the Infiniti wheels can't take the cleaner, and they some how start streaking or disintegrating. What kind of pansie-*** wheels are these that they can't take cleaning from a car wash? That's not saying much for the Infiniti wheels.

Couple of questions . . . can the wheels be fixed? How? Is this an Infiniti issue (their wheels can't stand up to a car wash) or a car wash issue (their cleaner ruined my wheels)?

They might've used the wrong cleaner? What'd your dealer say?
