Hardwire a radar detector

just bought a bel rx65-i do not have the premium package, thus no homelink. im going to hardwire it from a bracket under the rearview to the panel box. this is where i need help. i found this site:

http://www.imagestation.com/album/pi...807&mode=guest

but i dont want to just jamb the wire between a blade and connector, or use a fuse tap. i want to use a mini buse fuse holder with and empty slot. question 1: is there an empty slot that isnt always powered? 2. which one 3. with a:
http://order.waytekwire.com/CGI-BIN/...10C011+M37+ENG 3.

will this void warranty? 4. know of an easy way to remove the pillar (between door and windshield)? 5. do they make a fuse thing like this link that doesnt have me tapping off an existing circuit?

thanks for the help-
rob

Anyone know of a Retail Shop that carries these, so that I wouldn't have to purchase online? I'd rather use this than the way I'm currently doing it now in my fuse box.

What's wrong with a mini fuse tap? Couldn't be any easier.

hmm

going to use the add a circuit (piggy back thing). does any one know weather to use an empty fuse slot or piggy back off the cig lighter? how do you run the wire between the pillar and fuse panel-behind the w. strip?

I used the slot called "Accesory plug" or something like that to hardwire my radar detector. Pushed the wiring above the headliner, and then took off the A pillar plastic and kickpanel plastic down by the fuse box. I bought my "add-a-fuse" from PepBoys.

The A-Pillar plastic comes off just by pulling. Try to get it out enough so you can get your thumb under it and try pulling directly away from A pillar. The fusebox plastic pulls off similarly to the A pillar plastic. I also pulled the weatherstrip away from the door frame a little and the plastic molding next to the weatherstrip to help in routing the wires.

Good luck!

Question help, what the hell's going on?

so i got the directwire smartcord from escortradar.

i've opened up the side panel so i can see the fusebox.

i've tried to stick the metal thing that holds the wires into the spot between 15 and 10 like it shows on the picture, but it won't go in all the way like it does in the picture.

does anybody know what i'm doing wrong?

also, did you guys ground the wire on the screw underneath the dead pedal???

also, what is this 3m connector thing they gave me? did anybody use that to tap into a "switched" circuit?
