Switch to synthetic AND still change my oil every 3500 miles...Crazy?

If you use Castrol GTX you can go up to 5k of miles on that dino oil. It has shown in tests to last till then. Amsoil or Mobil 1, you can push over 6k. I only go to 6k for my piece of mind but I could go longer if I wanted too on Amsoil 5w30.
Filter has nothing to do with how long your oil lasts. After a while the oil starts to breakdown, and not work as it should. The oil filter only helps clean particles out of the oil but doesn't help the life of the oil. (Well to a certain point it does but not enough to make a issue out of it).

Actually that's incorrect. If you want to participate in Amsoil's long change interval program (way longer than 6k, more like 10k+ if you get the oil analyzed), you must change the oil filter at least once or twice. So changing the filter is important for the oil's longevity

The filter can't go longer due to the fact it has tons of dirt/etc inside of it. So it needs to be changed out to be on the safe side with a new one. But still the oil breaksdown and the filter doesn't help in this area. It just helps keep it clean and helps make it last a little longer.

Synthetic oils do NOT break down like petrolium oils do so dont worry about not changing your oil but once a year if you only put 5000 miles on your engile a year.

Synthetic oil can wear out and become acidic but that is uaually due to poor filtering of particles, breaking down the oil..
Summary: if you have a low milage car that rarely gets driven, use synthetic oils and change the oil and filter once a year or every 5 to 7k miles.

lol nevermind I guess everyone ignored my last sentence in there. I have done enough blackstone lab tests to know what breaks down oil and not. Oil Filters are part of it, but not as much as how the car is driven, what enviroments, how many miles are in the car, the type of oil you use, and so on.
Not JUST the oil filter. OIL still breaks down. If you have dino oil, and you go 3k of miles. Do you think just a filter change is going to help that oil last longer? No because it has reached its life depending on conditions. Oil filters are only PART of what makes the oil life.
