Quick Tire on rim fitment question

Is it possible to fit a 255/35 or a 255 or 250(if they even make them) width tire on a 19x8.5 inch rim? i currently have 245/35 on my rims, and i am getting plenty of scratches and chunks taken out of my rims from curbrash. I need that little bulge in teh tires to protect the rim. thanks

You may want to try to not hit curbs. Just a suggestion.

wow, ur absolutely right. i took ur advice and voila, all my problems were cured. . . except for that little thing called "minor accidents" or "pot-hole-ridden-(houston)-roads," I wouldn't underestimate those possibilties. . .just my suggestion.

I don't know the answer to your question....since the largest I've heard on a 8.5" rim is 245 (which is what you have)....going to 250 I really don't see helping you that much (if they make that size).....that is only 5 mm wider....so really not sure how much bulge you would even get from them (since tire most likely bulges symetrically...you'd split the width and only get 2.5 mm)?? (just my guess) What about a tire that has a built in rim protector? (I don't have them...so not sure how effective they actually are, but just a thought). But I do know that there are a handful of tire manufacturers who have them. Good luck.

I have actually received word that you can infact fit a 255 on an 8.5" width tire. At least thats what someone said on another post i made with this question on the suspension/wheels tech forum. But yea, the lip protector design is also a way to go.

Do research

Visit www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp and nose around... everything you need to know is likely to be found there.

Yes, you can fit a 255/35 on your 19X8.5 rim with no problems. I'd also suggest getting a tire with a good sized rim protector.

and hey... watch out for those curbs

The Dunlop Direeza tire have a little flange on the tire that protects the rim. It has saved me a couple of times
