Custom Sirius Radio and Bluetooth Install

Everything works good, the sirius kit is fm modulated. Hoping to get the custom bezel wrapped in black alcantara soon.

the install cost 325 for the sirius radio. The sound has some static hopefully they'll be able to fix it. The ABS plastic the mount is made from has minor imperfections so I'm hoping to wrap it in alcantara to make it look perfect.

325 for an fm modulated install sounds a bit much. Static is kind of par for the course with that type of connection.

If its a new head unit, why did it need to be connected that way? If you were replacing the whole thing, werent there any options with built in sat radio?

Yes the kit is FM modulated, but alot of the price was the custom work. Besides, I'd rather pay more and make sure the job is done right as I know this audio shop is very reputable in their work and they will definietly take care of any problems I might encounter.

Furthermore, yes 325 is high but I have had problems in the past with other shops and I've ended up spending more correcting a faulty installtion. The peace of mind and the extra quality of work the extra $ brings is well worth it to me, especially in an essentially brand new car.

The FM modulator is wired into the antenna to ensure clear reception, the issue seems to be something with the tweeters in the car producing a static like noise. It will be taken care of tomorrow. FM modulation is not great, and I was looking for an aux input solution, although the shop told me that they cannot do it in a car that has navigation. Any input?

Alcantara wrapping goes on tomorrow, and I will post high res pics at that time.

The Bluetooth installtion was done using the Parrot ck3100. I had it wired so it only takes over the front speakers when a call comes in, this way I can still listen to music in the background. It is the closest thing to OEM bluetooth. The microphone was clipped onto the front of the headliner. You can see the unit in the first picture to the bottom right of the steering wheel.

sorry i was confused, i though you replaced the head unit as well. Should have looked closer to the other picture.
That bit about the navigation is not true, i think it just matter what year your radio is, and or the bose combination. I could be wrong, but i dont think it has anything to do with the navi.

I slapped a sirius unit into my g35x with navi, just required getting the infiniti reciever, was around 280 from everythingG.

I bet yer after market unit is much friendlier than the oem though, its stupid use of the display is maddening.

Congrats on the parrot unit, i hear thats the best after market BT, my bros in law had the motorola installed in his benzo, it loses its pairing all the time.

I looked at the OEM and on second thought I should have gone that route (especially if it was only 280) but the aftermarket unit does have a large display which is a plus and it was a clean installation so I cant complain.

What adapter would I have to purchase for the aux input? If the FM modulation doesnt sound better when they tweak it tomorrow I'll definitely invest in it.

Below is the piece of suede that I picked up from Michael's Arts and Crafts Store. It will be applied to the bezel tomorrow.

Also, the Parrot Unit is great, although it is sometimes quirky but it does have the potential for software updates which I must look into.

Thumbs up

Not to rain on your parade or anything, but....

I have an 05 6MT Sedan (alum. trim) with the same Sirius unit installed in the same location that you have, the only difference being that mine is mounted in the acutal ashtray door. It can be opened and closed like normal, and be concealed when closed. I'll post some pics.

I too am less than pleased with the FM modulation, but I plan to pick up a PAC AAI-NIS and have it hardwired in.

To each his own...hope you are enjoying it. https://g35driver.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

I opted not to have it installed in the ashtray cause I really dont use it anyway. I like it better this way, but I would love to see pics of your installation. I will be posting pics with the alcantara tomorrow.

If you know any way to wire it up with an AUX input (keep in mind I have nav) that would be great.

It was by far the best price i found online, they also email you the complete directions which was great. The kits contains everything including the antenna. There is a harness extender for the sedan, 25 bucks and highly recommended.

the biggest benefit to the OEM receiver IMO, besides sound quality, is that the steering wheel controls work properly with it.

I didn't realize the OEM was the inexpensive. I thought it was in the 400 range plus intallation.

The car is back at the shop right now and they are putting in a better FM modulator so I am expecting a minor improvement in sound quality which would be perfectly acceptable.

The sirius unit has preset buttons which are easy enough to push and since I only listen to about 5 or 6 stations anyway the steering wheel controls were't as important as a full display for me, however even with that being said I would have gone the OEM route if I knew it was $260.

Its closer to 300, a bit over with the sedan harness and shipping.
Dealers charge anywhere from 500-900 for the whole thing including install. And your right, most sites have this recvr listed at 350+.

The install is pretty easy if you dont mind mounting the antenna inside, mine is on the package shelf. The biggest pain for me was removing all the panels in the trunk. Those panel fasteners are in some weird annoying places.

Enjoy yer new toys, Sat radio + blue tooth + navi, you got everything man!
