optima battery in sedan?

Hey this might get moved to tech, but most people there are coupe drivers.

Any1 have an optima yellow top in their sedan?

What size optima does it take? I have gotten different answers from two shops in town.

Thanks

you will want the D35R yellow top. It will fit fine and you will be happy with the voltage.

I had a yellow top in my last car and never had a problem with it.

I looked in the phone book and found a local dealer for it for a good price. According to the optima web site, Interstate batteries looks to be a distributor, so you may find one locally. Some auto parts sotes, Sears, and costco carry them too.

Costco only has blue tops, and obviously I can find them locally, that's why I asked how much you guys paid, not where you got them.

anyway thanks for the help guys

I can find them local for 179 (around that) they are cheaper on the web by like 40-60 dollars but shipping is 25+, and I need it sooner.

If you need it sooner, then you have nochoice but to go local. I paid about $180 for my yellow top about 5 years ago.

180 is about right. Since you sound like you desperately need it, go for it!

Pardon my ignorance, but what's the point? Weight savings?

Yes, the Optima (if it's the same as the one sold for the Legacy GT) weighs like 1/3rd the amount of a standard OEM batt.

no the point is the power. I am doing a big Audio/Video install this weekend. two massive amps in the trunk need a lot of juice. With a yellow top I won't need a CAP and it has major reserve power.

It is also a Deep Cycle battery, which means if it is completely drained (i.e. watching DVDs for 3 hours with the ignition off) it can be jumped and will fully recharge. (unlike non deep cycle bats).

The red tops have better cold cranking amps and craking amps (marginally) but they have less reserve power and they are not deep cycle.

Optima Yellow top is what I want, I can find them here for 180.
But it isn't all that urgent, cause the OEM battery can probably handle a lot of draw but it has crap reserve and I will kill it super fast if I ran with the ignition off.

Anyway, thanks for the input guys

you guys with the d35 and the d34/78, did you have any problem with the reverse configuration of the posts, and the length of the cables connecting the battery? did you reverse the battery, or did the cables reach with no problem?

jasper the 34/78 has two terminal locations on the side and the top, I am pretty sure the top terminal is very similar to our stock batteries so you shouldn't have a problem, but maybe someone with more expertise can give you a more iron clad answer.
