2006 G35X has front area "sproing" or "metal pop" noise

I've read a lot of posts about various noises in the G35... ABS, VDC, front rods, radiator clearance to the chassis, sounds coming out of the rear seat area, etc.

However here is what I am hearing in a new 06. Have heard it 4 times, starting on day 1. It is NOT ABS. I have had ABS for years and know what it, and the G35 sounds like when engaged. Also, not quite sure it is front end but maybe body panel related? It is definitely in the front.

It sounds like a sproing, springy thunk, or metal pop coming from the front drivers side area during aggressive flex. Is body creak the right term???? First time I heard it was inadvertently going straight over a pothole on the left side. Since it was day one of a new car I almost jumped out of my seat! It sounded like a bottom body panel or wheel well panel had relaxed and popped!

Second and third times were both fast left turns over very minor changes in pavement level (not talking curbs here) into a driveway. Same sound.

Last time was backing out, steering wheel all the way to the right, and a hard stop after backing out. Same noise..

Okay 4 times in 3 weeks is not a lot, but this is a NEW car!

Any help in trying to narrow this down so I can describe it to a dealer most appreciated. Issue of course is it is not immediately repeatable. I have tried... So if the dealer does not know where to look, they are not going to find it.

I doubt it is something rubbing (like the radiator TSB) because it does not always do it with the same motion or flex. It is almost like the tension is built up and then a strong action releases it.

Any help most appreciated,

Welcome to the G35 - I had this issue as well and if it is the same, there is a part replacement for this that solves this issue. Search this forum as I've posted this and other part #'s for other fixes as well.

Hope you have patients w/creeks/rattles/ect - for more are comming

Rlampke,

I read through your posts again...I saw the interior noise thread but that is definitely not what I have. The interior is very quiet.

I also again noted the ABS descriptions, not what I have...

The noise described as coming from the rear sounds similar, but mine is definitely from the front.

If you are referring to the chassis-taxing situation TSB, that might be it but the link is dead?

Did I miss one? I hope?

Thanks... I talked to the dealer and they did hear of something similar....

I certainly hope they can find it. Very annoying.

Took it in for service. They could not make the car replicate the sound. No surprise since it only does it once a week or so. They did lube(?) the brake assembly or something as they thought that might be it?

What one other G35 at that dealer had done that made the same sound was the sway bar hitting something. I also pointed out the various TSB's that talked about similar noises. But they did not see that on mine.

Anyway, maybe it is because it was at the "doctor's" but it has not made the noise sense. Since I posted this, I can only assume tomorrow it will do it!
