Here is the basics for Vicous Liquid Limited Slip. The two axles are seperated in the differential by a coupling that holds a Viscous Liquid. When it's no agitated (ie.. wheels spinning at the same speed) it's a liquid (ie.. 0 lock). When one wheel greatly differs in speed (ie.. one spinning wheel vs one stationary wheel), the fluid is agitated. As this happens, the liquid starts to really thicken up. This transfers power to the stationary wheel. This transfer only goes up to approximately 20-25%. Other types of Helical, gear and clutch can go up to 45%-55%? I'm not exactly sure. You of course wouldn't want 80-100% as that might break things in the axles.

So even at full "lock" a VLSD is only transfering about 1/4 of the power over. So you could still have one spinning wheel vs the other wheel spinning at a lower speed. But if you are in the mud/ice/snow, that 20% will get you out

The car came with the equipment I described when I bought it. It has the front aero bumper with the two large intake openings and rear spoiler and bumper flare. Did the sports package only come with the five spoke wheels? My car has the six spoke wheels. I will try to post pics of my car this weekend in the gallery.

Thanks for the reply

I've got an '04 6mt also. I ordered it with all the options available. Fully loaded. Yes it has the limited slip, yes with the vdc off it will smoke them endlessly if I drive it like I stole it. I'd imagine that the factory lsd is not as good as an aftermarket one, but would anyone really expect it to be? For a sedan, with only aftermarket sway bars, it's a blast to road race this car. it loves the twisties if you've got the resolve to push it. DaveB is again correct, All 6mt's have the lsd. enjoy it and upgrade to an aftermarket lsd if you have the need.

My apologies. I must have read your post too fast. I thought you had a 2005 sedan. Now that you mention the five spoke wheels, I went to re-read your post to see that you have a 2003. The VLSD was introduced on the sedans in model year 2005, so your car does not have the VLSD.

On a side not, regarding the aero and sports pkg. I always thought the aero pkg included the sports pkg. yes, the sports pkg only came with the five spoke wheels, the red shocks, and the titanium-trimmed interior center console. Yes, take pics of your car and the interior center console..and let us know what color your shocks are. From that, we can tell if you actually have the sports pkg.

Thanks for the reply. This site is a great resource. Nice to see all the G owners willing to share their knowledge. I bought the car from a used car dealer so they had no knowledge of the options in the car. Fotunately I have the orginal 2003 G35 sales brochure so I have read up on the specs and packages in the brochure to try and figure out what my car has.

Thanks everyone I guess mine is fine too. I'm just used to more like a 40% to 50% lock I would think.. None the less I still love my G.

what about 06 AWD?

Compared to the Titan forum, this site is refreshingly positive. Love it...
