I actually prefer the older program vs the newer program. I've had an 04.5 and 05 loaner and I don't like the fact that the MM reverts back to 1 everytime I come to a stop. With my 03, I can determine what I want the tranny to. If I want 1, I select it and hold it. Same goes for any other gear. With the 04.5+ program, you're forced to row the gears in MM everytime.

On thing I do like about the 04.5+ program is the shift response. The MM 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 shifts are quicker and firmer. I prefer that to the somewhat soft shift of my 03. The car is no quicker with the firmer shift, but it gives you that nice little jerk on the shift.

I thought about it and I kinda have to agree Dave. It's sorta nice to know that the shifts will be done automatically but just to a certain pre-selected gear. Maybe I'll get a chance to try a 05 when I bring mine in for some warranty stuff

Here is something I like about the shift from D (say coasting in 5th) to MM since if I shift down as soon as I get into MM, I can get it to 3rd gear pretty quickly (much faster than if I was in MM 5th and pressing down twice), especially handy on the freeways.

One thing I do notice though is that if I am slowing down and switch a few gears like going from 4th to 2nd or 3rd to 1st, with the foot off the gas and then try to accelerate again, it jerks pretty hard and takes forever trying to engage the lower gear. Don't know how much strain that puts, but it is very hard shift.
