G35 Sedan vs. M45

How does the G35 Sedan compare in performance to the Infiniti M45?

I would like either the G35 or the M45, but I'd prefer the M45.

I know the M45 has something like 340hp (correct?), but does it's added weight lessen its performance to G35 levels (not that that's a bad thing)?

Are there any M45 forums you know of?

Thanks.

Dave

I don't know of any specific M45 forum...Preference is preference...I think the M45 looks like an angular Mercury Marauder and the main difference is the 4.5L V8 that it shares with the Q45...It's supposed to be a sportier version of the Q...And performance-wise I can confidently state that the G would rip the M on a road course- performance is much more than displacement and horsepower...If you like larger sedans with a towncar feel that's the M...

Re: G35 Sedan vs. M45

There's an M45/Q45 Forum on Freshalloy. I believe the M45 is faster in a straight line than the G35 5AT, and about neck and neck with the 6MT. I agree the G35 will have an edge in the twisties, but I don't think it's fair to compare the M45 to a towncar. More accurate I think would be a little larger and a little more comfortable than the G35, but still sporty. I'm not crazy about the current styling of the M45, but if the 2005 redesign fixes the styling the M45 will probably be my next vehicle when it's time to turn in the G35, because I could use the extra room plus the M45 has a nicer interior and much of the technology from the Q45.

It may not be fair to complare to a Town Car, but that's a domestic M competitor...Definitely looks better than the Marauder...I was considering the M but I'd have to be able to perform a lot of mods and they aren't available

The chance that I'd ever take an M45 to a road course (if I should ever own one) are slim to none. So luxury, acceleration and plenty of space are tops on the list.

Re: G35 Sedan vs. M45

I am new to the forum.
Unfortunately I didnt have the patience to wait for the G35 sedan 6MT and I ended buying a 2003 Maxima 6 speed in january. I would like to buy the G in the next year.
I had a race with an M45 on an onramp to the 73 freeway in Orange county. I was behind the M45 from the start, I was keeping up with him, without pushing too much and he probably got annoyed he couldnt pull away so he suddenly floored it. I made a quick shift from 1st to second at 30 mph and I was on his tail until 60 mph at which point I shut it off.
I think the M45 was pulling strong and he may have some advantage after 60 mph.
I just to give you some input.
I enjoy your forum a lot.

Re: G35 Sedan vs. M45

I have yet to take on an M...Like I said, were the mods available for under the hood and the suspension I'd be all over it...Not as far as being superior to the G but because it would be unusual...My ex wanted me to get the M45 but I opted to get the G for its obvious potential and performance, and I figured the FX was practical since I wouldn't be purchasing the larger sedan...Now that I've got the FX watch the aftermarket take on Nissan's 4.5L, torturing me...

I know what you mean, sounds like we have similar criteria for judging the ideal sedan. I went with the G35 Sedan because it is a good looking car with excellent performance and a lot of bang for the buck. It's not quite as big with regard to interior space as I would have liked, but it's big enough I can live with it, and I like pretty much everything else about the car (though a interior could use a bit more luxury).

An M45 would have been too much for the finances right now, plus I'm not entirely crazy about the styling (though it has grown on me some over time, and some of the pics with JDM body kits look nice). But if the 2005 redesign turns out nice they could have a serious competitor to the BMW 540 and other similar cars, in which case I'll definitely be considering one in 2006.

Re: G35 Sedan vs. M45

The m45 will smoke a g35 hands down, anyday. The 315 hp engine is a beast, you dont even know that you're accelerating because the cabin is quiet and the exhaust is not loud like on the G's and FXs. However, styling SUCKS HARD CORE. Handling is decent for a large car, but the styling has GOT TO GO! I've seen maybe 4 of these cars sold in a 2 month period, and our dealership moves around 100 cars per month. The M may have been a bit rushed - nissan just took the gloria and slightly redid the exterior while slapping in a nice engine. More design emphasis should have been taken into consideration - these cars simply do not look nor can compare to the 5 series.

Re: G35 Sedan vs. M45

Shouldn't the M45 be compare to an Audi S4 or somthing that is similar to power and price. The S4 is a V8, has around 347 horses or so, does 0-60 in about 5.7 secsonds and costs about the same as the M45. But damn, the S4 looks really sweeet. I would cercainly get an M45 if it looks like the S4. Maybe in a few years from now when i make a little bit more money and looking for a v8, then the S4 will probably be first on my list.

Re: G35 Sedan vs. M45

I don't see why people say things like the M45 is just a rebadged Gloria/Cedric...That's like whining because the G35 is just a rebadged Skyline...Every Asian car that comes here is a rebadged Japanese version with a few changes...Nissan's line-up is huge overseas...Personally, now that I've been hunting down parts and have test-driven the M45, I want one...Of course, I plan on getting one that has the 340 HP 4.5L, not the 315 HP version...

The more women the better. It's a great people hauler and makes sense as a family car in many ways since it competes with many cars that perform less and cost more. This car is for more than knuckleheads with speed racer underwear and dreams of beating a m5
