05 AT Aluminum base of shifter removal?
Hey, I scratched up the aluminum base that has the "N" and "D" that has the leather boot and shifte come out of it. Do I just stick a flat head underneath the lip of the base and pop it up, is it that easy to just pop out and buy a new one or are there LED's I have to take out under neath or anything? I already tried a search and couldnt find anything for the 05 at metal base just the shifter itself. Thanks
There is something here dealing with removal of that piece, even a pic, but damned if I can find it either, it was one of several rattle fixes in a thread a while back. I bet that piece isn't going to be cheap though.

I have taken apart the entire console in my 03 5AT. I just removed the console piece with the shifter in it by pulling up and out on either side disengaging the piece. there are then three screws on the underside that hold that aluminum thing together with the plastic piece that moves with the shifter and covers the whole around the shift rod.
really easy. just lift the piece that the shifter is in and look at the underside, you won't hurt anything.

oh yeah, you have to take off the shift ***, this is really easy. hit the the shift lock with small long screwdriver, put in neutral. pull down on clip at base of shifter *** (Careful not to send the pin clipping the base of the shifter flying into your eye!) keep a hand around the area where the cap you just removed is that way it won't go flying to far. Then lift up on the shift ***, now you are ready to take out that console piece. Your *** warmer switches, ashtray, etc. will still be connected but you will have enough clearance to do what you are trying to without disconnecting them.
