is there anything wroung with this (for rock chips)?
Nope. That's how I repair rock chips. That's how I repair scratches too. I do scratch repairs all the time and for a 1.5 inch scratch to a bumper I'd probably charge $150 but I don't spray, I just touchup/wetsand/polish. Either way the results are the same. Originally Posted by Neal376

$200 or so from a shop sounds right.
First of all, thanks to everyone who has responded to my questions. I have a much better understanding of the type of repair that will be required. But I would like some clarification, or maybe just your opinions on what you would do if this were your car.
Some of you have basically said, "Yeah, that sounds about right for that kind of damage." And I get the impression that the dealer quote of $250-$350 seems appropriate for the repair.
Some of you have said that you would recommend just having it touched up, wet sanded and polished for about $125.
So, I have two options that differ quite a bit in price. What would you do if this were your car? Also, does anyone have any good recommendations for a body shop in the Dallas (Plano) area (or just maybe point me to the right place to find out on the boards)?
Thanks for all your help!

I had my both bumpers completely refinished(not only painted, but all small gouges filled) last summer, it cost me $850 CAD(say $700 USD). It was done in dealer referred shop and job was excellent.
So $350 for "blend" might be too much.

I had a pretty good gouge taken out of my bumper (wifey didnt pull the car far enough into the garage...hinge on the rolling door kissed the car).
I got a quote from a dealer recommended body shop for $750 to do a "blend". They had a guy in the same complex that does paint only give me a price of $300. The only difference was the body shop would have removed the bumper to paint it. The paint shop just masked my car off and did the work with the bumper on...in the booth. You can not tell I ever had such and ugly gouge. Good as new.
Your quote sounds about right but first find out how they are going to do the repair. I think that would give you a better idea of whether it is a fair price or not.
