Oil filter - whats up with that

Was at wally world yesterday and decided to just look at the oil filter recommeded for my car. Not going to be using as I got over a years free oil changes at the dealer but I was curious.

The thing was smaller than any other filter I have seen. Is this due to the fact that there is no room in the engine bay or are these engines so clean

I was just shocked at what I saw. It was actually smaller than a civic filter.

Have a healthy day!

Yeah when the local Nissan dealer pulled of off the shelf and I laid eye's on it I busted out laughing. The guy just smiled and said, "yeah that's really the size of it". I replied, my dad's riding lawn mower has a bigger filter. Oh well, whatcha gonna do.

only theory i have heard is that less filter means less pressure drop across the filter. this means the oil pump takes less power from the engine to turn it. There is plenty of space in there for a larger one

No theory here. It's the same size as the old G-20's and fits most of Nissan's engines. I am sure they went with what's worked in the past.

G35/S/MT....this car rocks!

my QX-4 uses the next size larger (approx 3/4" longer) - my 96, 97 and 2K Maximas all used it as well

Anyone have any comments on why it wouldn't work on the G? There's plenty of space available
