Sirius Sportster Installed-impressions

Well, I finally broke down and bought a Sirius Sportster Replay for my 05 6MT sedan. I put the antenna on the back deck inside the rear window just behind the child seat anchor and used a small piece of velcro to make it stick to the "carpet" that lines that back deck.

I was also pleased to find a quick release that allowed me to get under the back seat to run the wire and I then put it under the Infiniti logo part of the rear mat and then to the center console. I plugged the cigarette lighter adapter in under the armrest and I rest the unit in the cup holder.

I have 100% reception despite the fact that the antenna is inside the car. The sound quality through the stock Bose system is not bad.

All this for about $100 after rebates. I highly recommend it.

Best Buy. It was actually 149 with a 20 rebate...so I guess I lied...$129 total.

my brother bought me this kit. I instaled it myself in the exact same fashion you did except I forgot to used velcro on the antena, the magnet on the antena attached it self to the rear deck sub. Disregard the rubber bands. the face is now secured with velcro.

I dont like the sound quality, I want to see if someone can install a AUX jack for my car so I can run sounds straight off of my tablet pc.

looks pretty cool at night with the blue backlit display (to bad its not orange lol)

I dont like having food or uncovered drinks in my car, so I could care less about a cupholder

I too have Sirius. I think it's the sportster w/ built in recorder. (Sorry I don't know the exact name). Anyway, I did not like the blue display or filling up the cup holders. Sooo I put it in the glovebox. I actually ran my antenna under the right door seal in between the fender and the A-pillar, then tucked the wire in the windshield moulding. Th antenna mounts at the rt front corner of the roof.

But.... Thanks to your post, I'm going to try the rear deck method. Sounds cleaner. --> Is the supplied antenna wire long enough, or did you special order the longer one?

Mine is not hardwired, so I use the built in transmitter. Even from the glovebox, I have decent sound.

The glovebox method requires the remote or don't change the stations too often. During the NFL season, I listen to the NFL channel exclusively. During the offseason, I mostly use my I-pod.

sorry, dont do the rear deck method. I forgot to say that unless you get a better magnet, the antena will constantly fall off if you take sharp turns. The velcro method sounded better.

I actually have the wire running underneth the passenger seat, underneth the rear passenger seat and underneth the door molding, to underneth the space between the reclining rear seat and the deck, to the sub.

The antenna wire that is supplied is very long. I coiled most of it up and put it under that center portion of the rear floor mat.

Before the velcro idea, I tried removing the plastic cover on the baby seat anchor and the magnet grabbed right on to it. It annoyed me because it seemed to high up and stuck out when viewed through the rear view mirror. The velcro holds very well and you don't need the fuzzy half...the hooks stick right on the back deck. If I switch cars for a trip, it would be easy enough to just pop up the seatbottom and yank the wire then transfer the whole system to another car.

I also want to point out that I'm "broadcasting" it over 87.9 on FM using the included FM transmitting feature. The sound is as good as any radio station, though not as crisp as a good CD. I will mostly be listening to talk (Stern) so music isn't a big concern to me.

I mounted mine on the roof, ran the cable around the window like the manual suggested, it worked real well. I got the Sirius replay thingy. I've been really happy with the functionality you get with these little boxes. I love being able to do artist alerts, rewind and pause, and browse what's on the other stations without having to change the channel. The one thing I'm thinking about doing is buying the PAC audio kit thingy so I can use the line out function of the unit... the FM quality isn't great, I'm hoping if I were to use the line in the quality would improve some.

I would imagine that it would improve tremendously. I am just going to my local shop to see if they can fabricate something.

Many newer cars, such as the mini cooper, have an AUX jack. Its such a simple device. I dont see why more cars dont have it.

That's it. I have the replay. I agree, the artist alerts are the best part.

Ken: I'm not sure if we have the same antenna. The one w/ the replay is a tiny disc... the size of a silver dollar.

There are two ways to hardwire....

1. Pac Accessory Corp AAI-NIS2 This plugs into the Sat input & gives you two RCA inputs. It's the most popular as it's been around the longest. You can also buy the SWI-X which integrates your steering wheel.

2. A second company which follows the same principle listed above, but they give you one I-Pod specific input and one RCA. I saw it at my dealer w/ my own eyes. Says "I-Pod" right on the product. The parts guy stated it's good for 03 - 05, only. I questioned him on it since most things are similar 05 - 06. He was aware of everything I mentioned, but again assured me it is not good for the 06. He said it would be a month before this product is available.

I've emailed the manufacturer. I'll keep you updated.

Thanks!

I just hooked up my Sportster in my '07 G35S. I put the antenna on top of the rear window taillight and used sticky velcro to secure it. I then ran the wire under the Bose sub cover and down beside the middle armrest.

The rear seat comes up by pulling on two tabs (located under your knees if you are sitting in it. I ran the antenna wire under the back seat and under the floor mat. I then poked it under the console and removed my ash tray. Next (this was scary), I drilled a hole (7/32) from the inside of my console towards my ash tray. I then cleaned up the debris and fed the antenna wire thru the new hole.

Since my car has a power port and AUX plugs in the console, the rest was easy .

I coiled up the excess antenna wire under the seat and put everything back to normal. The only down side is that the unit is inside my console, which means I miss the artist alerts.

I hope this helps someone else.

Great Site!!! Oh, and the '07 S model (Sport 6MT) ROCKS!!!!
