Wow, so changing all of the brakes to Hawk HPS eliminated the problem for two of you? Maybe I should try that myself. The sound doesn't bother me as much anymore, but i am embarrassed that a $30k+ car makes a noise like that, I think I've scared a couple of people with that noise!

+1 I agree completely. Not that I'm self centered but in my business my vehicle says a lot about who I am to my clients (especially since they sometimes ride in it) so the brake squealing is rather embarrassing. I'm sure the brake kit will cost less than getting into a lease on another vehicle... anyone have estimates on cost/installation?

A Brake kit and Hawk pads are two different animals...front Hawk pads you can get for $65 total.......a big brake kit is I believe can range from $2k-$4k. You don't need that to get rid of your squealing. Installation, if you bring it to a shop will probably run you $50-$100 (for the front only)...but that's just a guess. I did it myself using the DIY that member "drewer" posted...never done brakes before, and his DIY made it easy (I was worried doing it, but it was easier than I though).

ah, then an actual brake kit would cost MORE than getting into a lease on a different vehicle lol... well, say you replace the pads.. does this problem return afterwards?

I think the amt. of brake dust that the OEM pads emits has a lot to do w/ the squealing...but I could be wrong. So I'd say going w/ better pads will eliminate the problem (until of course your pads need replacing because you've worn them down too far).

Make sure you do a proper bedding procedure on the new pads, which helps a lot with noise and the durability of the pads you install.

My Squeak Came Back

I bought a set of oem caliper stoptech drilled rotors and hawks pads, and about 5 months after installation the rusty sounding squeal came back. I now suspect it is the wear on the clips that hold the caliper and pads in place, so I ordered a $30 kit from Nissan to replace all the clips on my rear brakes.

My scenario may be different b/c my car has been driven in snow and may be a result of rust, but some of you might want to try the cheaper $30 solution first.
