G35x Brake Squeal - Will Changing Pads Help?

I have a 2005 G35x with 12k on it, and I get brake squeal, from minor to annoying. I took it to the dealer last week and they cleaned the brakes, refinished the rotors, whatever garbage they told me they did. I drove it off the lot...and the squeals were much quieter but still there.

So having said that...will merely changing the type of brake pad stop this? If so, what solutions have you found for this? I remember reading that in 2006 Infiniti changed the brakes so they don't have this problem anymore (as well as the 2005 G35 sedan and coupe), but I'm hoping there is a solution out there that won't cost me too much $$$. For the amount of money I spent on this car, I want the car itself to introduce me whenever I go, not squealing like I'm driving a FedEx truck!

There are a few treads about this. I also have a 05 G35x. All G35's except the X got better brakes starting in 05. The X did not get the better set up till 06. Sucks. The pre 05 brake set up is notirious for brake dust, fast wear, and squeaks. Even though they are the same as the pre 05 cars is does not get the special brake warranty Infinity had to add to fix the problems. New pads and rotors (not factory) will fix the problem. Look for parts labeled for pre 05 cars.

What Type?

Any suggestions as to what could be good for me to buy? I'm not a brake person so I'm clueless about this sort of stuff. Thanks.

i have the same problem.

solution:
buy a Big Brake Kit ...that is what I plan on doing..in the meantime I am going to take it to the dealership and complain and have them try and fix it. No reason why my $37,000 sedan brakes should be squeaking with only 6,000 miles on them.

I got 16K on my 05 G35X. Already replaced front pad and turned the rotor. Squeeking was driving me carzy. Dealer told me it was NOT covered under warranty. So had my local shop tech did the work. Aftermarket pad cost was $67.00. Labor was $50.00

I have an 05 G35x and have had nothing but trouble with my brakes. They had to resurface my rotors at 6,000 miles, replace the front brakes & rotors at 7,500 miles and replace the front and rear brakes and rotors at 10,000 miles due to grinding and squealing noise coming from the brakes. Although I had a lot of difficulty getting them to replace everything the last time, a regional tech guy came to look at my car and they covered the repair. They kept telling me that they upgraded the brakes for 05. From a few other threads I've now read that they didn't change the brakes on the 05x model. Hopefully they'll extend the warranty like they did with the 03 and 04 models since they are the same pad.

BROTHERS i TOO am an 05x man myself and YES my brakes sqeak like a bitch. But that was the past. I went to my local infiniti dealer 3 times for the same problems over a length of time and they just baable me until i gave in and went home. So the 4th time i took to another infiniti dealer an hour away and just one visit, the tech guy fixed my squeaking brakes permanently. Don't know what he did but wen i looked at my brakes, it appeared it was the two front brakes that was sqeaking and tech guy put some gold colored stuff in the brake pad that made it stop. This was HOlman infiniti in MapleShade NJ.

hmm... i don't know the specifics of what that one specific tech guy did that others couldn't have figured out. But i know that you guys are probably in pain each time you brake at a red light and the "nice car" squeaks, so i'll give them a holla 2morow to bring up my service list and track it down.

I have a 2004 non-X but my OEM brakes always squealed. I replaced the pads with Hawk HPS pads (picked them up at my local pep-boys) and now the squeaks are gone, as well as the crazy brake dust. Hope that helps.

This problem just started up for me a week or two ago... at first I thought it was no big deal but it's getting louder and louder. Should I call the dealer and even bother trying to get them to fix it? It's a lease so forgive me for not wanting to replace the brakes with a higher end kit.

I just took my 2005 G35X to the dealer for 15,000 mile service and to check out my squealing front brakes. I'm told that I need new pads and rotors. I'm told that even though the '05 & 06s have different front brakes than the '03 & 04s there are still problems with the front brakes. Infiniti extended the brake warranty for the '03s and '04's but not the '05s and 06s. Both the dealer and Infiniti customer service said that enough people complain the brake warranty could extended to cover the '05 and '06 model year.
Please complain to Infinity customer service at 800-662-6200.

Same Problem for Me

I have the same problem. Just had my 30,000 km service done and I complained about the brakes (again).

The response I got was that since I will need to have the front brake pads replaced and the rotors machined next service that it would be cheaper for me not to clean them and for me to live with the sound.

I am ok with this, since the last time they cleaned up the brakes for me, it start squeeking within minutes of me leaving the dealership.

For the first front pad replacement, did you guys just replace the pads or did you have the rotors machined as well? can you get away with just the pads?

I am a little disappointed in the wear of thes brakes. I would say 75% of my driving is on the highway, and my travel times are usually when there is little or no traffic, so I am not in stop and go traffic. How can these brakes go so fast?

I have 16K miles on the odo.... this is disappointing. Will my car be damaged if I just leave them as is? The sound doesn't bother me too much since I either have windows up or the windows are down and the music is so loud I can't hear myself think or the brakes squeal. It's something I can live with but an annoyance like this at 16K miles and then not doing anything to fix it is not best for customer retention imo.

^+! to that...I was about the reply w/ the same. I cannot believe how much less dust I have now (actually, after driving a week, you can't even see any build up)....and the squeaks are gone. If you're looking for a great deal, email Ken @ brakeguru@gmail.com. He hooked me up with Hawk HPS for a great price. Tell him Jim referrered you to him.
