Break-in and the Redline

I have about 600 miles on my new sedan and I have a confession.
A Couple of Red-line indiscretions.
For the most part I have been very moderate with my driving. Not babying the car but not going full tilt either. This weekend I put the pedal to the metal a few times and she flew. The Auto Trans took her right to the red-line and then shifted. Nirvana... Now I am concerned that I should not have done it before the 1200 miles suggested in the owners manual.

Anybody else have the same lack of constraint? Did I go too far too soon?

I need some reassurance :-)

Re: Break-in and the Redline

The VQ35DE is really so well-built, and actually so are most of today's engines, that you shouldn't have anything to worry about...When I was selling Nissans the 350Zs got redlined a few times on test drives (it's just going to happen) and those cars are fine...

I'd try not to push it too much, though. The first 1200 miles will be gone before you know it, and you just may have fewer troubles down the road if you follow the break-in procedures.

Don't baby the car, though.. that's almost as bad as ******* it. Just drive it.

Re: Break-in and the Redline

Thanks for the input.
Generally I try to keep it under 4K RPMs but I have let her loose a few times and only really pushed her hard a couple of times back to back last weekend (to rev limiter and AT upshift from 1st to 4th then backed off due to speed in 5th). What a rocket! I will continue to drive 'sensibly' until 1200.

Re: Break-in and the Redline

I pretty much did the same thing, redlined it a couple of times during break-in. I probably babied it too much, actually.

Re: Break-in and the Redline

Break-in is for the motor, but also and to a larger degree the drivetrain.
