Thinking About Selling the Sedan...
For an FX35.
My wife is getting back to horse riding and we need to pull a horse trailer. I would really like to stick with the Infinity brand and was looking at the FX35 as a replacement for the G:
Question:
Will the FX35 be able to tow a single horse trailer with a horse?
I know Geobau has an FX35 or 45 and he looks like he has horses. Geobau, if you are reading this, will you be towing horses with your FX? Thanks Guys.

Re: Thinking About Selling the Sedan...
The FX35 and FX45 have a tow capacity of 3500 pounds and a max tongue weight of 350 pounds...I'm willing to bet that a horse and a trailer weigh more than that- I've never owned one or had to tow one...

If I'm not going to switch to the coupe within the next year, I too conisdered the FX45...I'll try and keep this car for at least 2 years instead of trading it in after 12 mos =)

Re: Thinking About Selling the Sedan...
According to Infiniti specs the FX35/45 can tow 3,500 Lbs. trailer so if the horse trailer weighs less than that I think you're OK.
And also there's that new Infiniti QX56 coming out, which is a lot more capable of towing heavy trailers.

Re: Thinking About Selling the Sedan...
Here's what happened with us-- We have 8 horses, all hunter-jumpers, so we often are towing them around to shows/hunts. We had an old Blazer to tow, but an off-duty fireman hit it (unoccupied) in a snowstorm and subsequently sued us for $5.5M, but that's another thread. We went out that day and bought an F-150. They're relatively cheap, and they tow REALLY well.
We bought an SLT Plus Durango with the Magnum V8 a year later, intending to sell the F-150 and use the Durango instead. It was too nice, so we kept the F-150... we were only using a couple thousand miles a year, so it was still in great condition. Why not? We then bought an Envoy, saying we'd tow it with that. Nope. Now we bought the FX35.
Trust me, if you don't want to make an Envoy or Durango your "barn car", you definitely won't want to make a beauty like the FX do the work. My advice is simple: Get the FX, you'll LOVE it, but get a cheap, old '95 F-150 to tow the trailer. They hold saddles and barn equipment well, and you won't cringe when you go to a show in the rain. Cloth interior, etc. Cheap it up as much as possible. When you see your new FX, you won't want to sacrafice it to the equine gods, trust me. We've had our F-150 since 1995, and it's got 15,000 miles on it. Not too bad for resale value, if you ask me...

Re: Thinking About Selling the Sedan...
PS- We use a two-horse trailer. I'm pretty sure the FX35 will pull a one-horse, but I think it might be cheaper even to keep the G and get an older F-150. You'd only have taken the depreciation hit on one vehicle, and you could get an F-150 for under 15k, which is the price difference between the G and FX if you get it fully loaded. It's up to you-- but it might be a better economic choice to keep the G and get a supplemental F-150. What're you thinking about it at the moment?

Mike,
Don't sell it! Keep it as your weekend fun car.

i agree with GB.. just get a used truck.. f-150, chevy silverado... you'll get hit hard with depreciation on the G.. plus pay an extra 10-15K for the FX upgrade.. which will probably cost you somewhere between 15 - 25K depending on the market value of the G.. for that, you could just get kind of a beater truck for show purposes only... otherwise, that FX will probably end up smelling like horse dung all the time.

And nothing really says "towing power" quite like an American V8. The big three may be catching up in the car realm, but they're still the leaders in trucks.

You know how grain and feed can leave that nasty smell in leather for AGES? You'll get hair, that horse-show funk, etc. in the FX. I think you might be arrested for abuse! Do you have room to get a beater? I'm guessing that since you have a trailer you either have room or are boarding? Let me know-- best of luck,

You could always show your Infiniti/Nissan product loyalty and pick up a Nissan TItan Crew Cab when they come available...It won't outsell the Big 3 (as they're only building 100,000) but I guarantee it will smoke them in quality, reliability, and resale value...

the titan looks pretty nice. oh and i saw an F150 yesterday that was lowered, darkly tinted, and had chrome rims and all these stickers on it. and that ever popular sticker with calvin pissing on the chevy logo.

Re: Thinking About Selling the Sedan...
Thanks for the idea Geobau. I like the idea of getting a used truck. Although I have very limited space for a 3rd vehicle, I could probably squeeze it in the driveway somehow. Never really owned an American vehicle, so this might be the 1st.
I probably would get arrested for pulling a trailer with a nice vehicle such as an FX. I really like my G too much to sell it, so I'll keep her. Sorry to give you that heart attack Cato
I agree that horse hair, dander, and cleaning supplies would stain and funk-up the leather, so I will stick with the beater.
We will be boarding the horse and keeping the trailer at the stables for now until we decide if we want to move out to a more rural area, with at least 10 acres of land.
My wife rode in Germany for quite some time until we moved to America. She had an Arabian mix that walked like a camel. That horse was pathetic to look at, but was her favorite. In actuality, that was the most comfortable horse I ever rode. Oh well we shall see.
Thanks for all of your input.

Best of luck... what is she riding now? My mom's main fox-hunting horse is an aging Canamara... You could probably keep the vehicle with the trailer, then just drive out there and pick up the pickup/trailer combo. Keeps you from having to go through the whole "hitching and unhitching" fun part of the deal too.
