Crushed my bumper and trunk

Crushed my bumper and trunk
I backed out of a parking spot at about 2 mph, crushed the plastic bumper, dented the trunk and some other interior damage to the trunk release. About $2,200 damage. Thank God for insurance only will cost me $100.00 and the pain of a rental car for two weeks. It is hard to see out the back window, I have had the car since December, I guess I just had a brain fart at that moment.

That much damage going that slow? I will be extra careful now. Luckily I have evaded several near-crashes already due to the other driver's stupidity!
Sorry to hear about the mishap.

Re: Crushed my bumper and trunk
Sorry to hear that. Same damn thing happened to me this morning. I was backing out of a parking place, checked my rear - it was clear but another car backed into the same area just as I backed out. I was looking over my right shoulder but the other car was to my left so I didn't see it. Impossible to say who was at fault. Messing with insurance claims is too much of a hassle and I have a $500 deductible and a claim would probably increase my rates. So I need a new bumper cover and styrofoam backing for about $750 which I just ordered from the body shop this afternoon.

Re: Crushed my bumper and trunk
I had a Jeep tap my back bumper at a light - I didn't even feel the impact. It cracked the G35 bumper in the middle. New bumper with paint and labor is about $600. His insurance covered it. I read the G35 got the worst Federal bumper rating available, and I believe it.

You and I have exactly the same damage in the same place. Yours could be a picture of my car.
The bumper cover is just a plastic shell with nothing but an inch or two of air behind it, and some styrofoam behind the air. Any little tap will therefore crack it.
I don't understand why Infiniti didn't use a solid but resilient material (akin to a rubber ball) that could dissipate minor collisions with no damage.
