Gas mileage?

We just got our G-35 a week ago. Love it. After 400 miles (break-in driving) we're getting about 14mpg in city stop and go and about 22 on the freeway. The computer says we're averaging 17.6. Would love to know what kind of mileage others are getting.

Re: Gas mileage?

I drive about 75% city and 25% highway. I just recently grannied a tank to determine what's the best mileage I could get. I got 20.4 MPG. Admittedly, I’m a lead foot, so there are others who have gotten better. BTW, after I saw that the best I could get is 20, I decided I don’t care anymore, the car’s too cool to be driven like a grandma!

Re: Gas mileage?

I just snapped a quick cam-phone pic and uploaded it, sorry about quality-- I'm getting about 19mpg. On road trips, I've gotten as much as 25-28, and in stop-and-go, it's much lower. My "Gas Mileage History" is below.

I drive my G like it should be driven (interpret that however you wish), so it's not like I'm babying the gas pedal...

Re: Gas mileage?

When my commute was 90% highway, I averaged 22 mpg, highway speed was set @ 85mph most of the way. Now that my commute is 60% highway, I'm averaging 19.5mpg. All calculations done the old-fashioned way, no nav (tripmeter/gallons filled).

Re: Gas mileage?

Does resetting the ECU help gas mileage? I've had my car since the end of March, and have tracked my gas mileage from day 1 (old fashoned way). I drive about 75% hwy, i started around 18 mpg and have slowly inched upward and peaked at 20.8 mpg. Now I am always around 20.3 mpg plus or minus .5

I am hopeing that it will eventually get to what the sticker said when I bought it!!

Re: Gas mileage?

what the heck? i don't understand why all the discrepancies... some get consistently good gas mileage.. even if i baby it, i'm lucky to get 18 mpg.. i'm positive my car could never get more than 22 mpg even going 55 mph for a full tank.. it's ridiculous.

Re: Gas mileage?

My guess is that the numbes are all over the map because not all "city" or "stop and go" or "highway" is the same. For instance, in my Acura CL-S, I get about 14-15 in "city" driving in LA. But I get 18-20 in "city" driving in Palm Springs. And then there's aircon and individual driving styles, etc. I talked to the service manager of an LA dealer and he said that most of his customers were getting around 15 city and 20 highway.

Re: Gas mileage?

I'm a geek, so I've been keeping a spreadsheet of my gas mileage. I generally drive more than 50% city and average 19.8 mpg. On a recent roadtrip, I got 24.6 mpg with four people in the car and AC on. Not too bad. This is a 6MT sedan, and all calculations are done the old fashioned way; I write down the mileage at each fill up. I wonder why there are such large discrepancies in the gas mileages that people are seeing. I have two things going against me; crappy CA gas and lead foot, and still manage decent mileage. My worst tank came in at 14.7 mpg, but that was running with the pedal to the floor the whole time.

Re: Gas mileage?

I used to write it down and calculate it, however most gas stations have recently put the "cut off" at different degrees of 'fullness' when filling up. So I could fill up to 15 gallons at a station, then when I run up, I put 8 gallons in the tank and have gone 200 miles. I then would say okay, 8 gallons, 200 miles; 25mpg. But what if the gas station you're at stops their pumps when you have only 14g in your tank? Then you really only got 22mpg. Sure it's only 3 miles, but whatever.

That's not to say that the nav's gas-mileage system is 100% accurate, but so far it hasn't given me a reason to believe otherwise.

I've gotten up to 52mph coasting on the highway (yes, right after reset ), but if I'm on the interstate going about 65-71, I get almost 30. I really like the instant reading on you gas mileage that the nav system shows, gives you a good idea of what driving habit to avoid or adopt.

Re: Gas mileage?

Can you tell me how gas nozzles know how much gas you have in the tank?
