I was asked about this trick in another thread. I have had this installed for quite some time.(thanks to Kenny aka da mayor) I thought it should be up for reference sakes

Its a modification for the G35x. Shuts off the AWD and sends power only to the rear wheels. This can be done by simply pulling the AWD fuse or by installing a switch..

Here you go.

The shop charged me 60 bucks for the switch.
Once again, props to da mayor who is the Infiniti dealer who gave me this tip (makes you think...what else does he know?! )

 

hahah, everyone said this couldn't be done, but i knew it could. there were 2 occasions when i was ****in around with my car in the snow/rain and got the awd light to come on and the car was purely RWD.

smokin the tires on the pavers. lol. your nuts. doesn't look like you left a mark tho, i think thats cause its wet out.

completly wet outside. Was raining. Would not of done it anyways. Stock tires slip easily.

 

I thought JustBrilliantX or it could have been Chicago X had removed their AWD fuse before at the strip or track to test it out. I'll try and search it out later.

steep lol. I am a horrible bargain eer. They give me a price and I say OK. I need to bargain more.

you dont need to go anywhere. You can just pull the fuse labeled AWD with the fuse puller located in the fuse box.

The switch was done by a normal shop. You just got to attach a switch to the fuse. No big deal.

it must of been justbrilliantx. I asked ChicagoX and apparently this was the first time he heard of it. I mentioned this before...you think it was me?

Any adverse effects? I can't think of any since it shuts off after 10/15 mph anyway.

I wouldnt think that mpg would increase any more than half a gallon...so I guess it would be negligable. I guess its only good for a spin around the block, or for rwd dynos. I guess you can heat your tires at the track now :-D

 

LOL, Wayne...I've pulled just about everything else. ABS, VDC, yaw sensor, brake lights....

What is the longest time/distance you've driven in this manner?

I'm curious if the car will go into 'limp mode' after a certain mileage.

I have to try pulling the fuse sometime also (if I can ever get the car away from my wife )

 

So does that awd fuse belong to the front transfer case? the thing that engages the electromagnetic clutch in the front? If so that should be pretty safe. The ECU might be confused and throw an error code (which lights up the awd light) but other than that.. sweet.

 

i'm glad you are enjoying it. i really can't say if there are any long term effects but yes it is possible. the clutches in the transfer case are electromagnetic so i figured it would just lock into rwd when the fuse does not give it power.
