Low Power 06 G?

Took my new 2006 G35 6MT Sedan into service because of a memory switch issue and they gave me a G35x Auto as a loaner. I'm not saying my "butt dyno" is calibrated, but the G35x seemed to have more pickup and go than my 6MT. Makes me feel like the 6MT is missing some torque in the mid range. Is it just me?

loaners are driven really hard typically. it must just be an ECU thing

The MT does have less torque, but I don't know if 10 lb-ft is enough to make that much of a difference in feel .

Technically the MT is missing a little bit of torque.

the x has more aggressive gearing than the auto sedan. Maybe that has something to do with it.

You can be assured your 6MT is quicker than the X, however by seat of the pants, the autos do feel stronger especially from 0-50mph. This is largely due to the fact that the car comes off the line faster and easier and the increased torqe multiplication from the torque converter gives a greater sensation of initial speed. Seeing that you have an 06 with the Rev-Up motor, there is a lack of torque in the low to midrange compared to the non-Rev-Up motors. The Rev-Up has the advantage above 70mph where it's higher breathing capablities can be exploited.

No, the X isn't that much heavier.

the X is 138 lbs heavier than the 6mt and 182 lbs heavier than the base automatic. The X consumes more gas because of its more aggresive gearing. It is slower than the automatic, but not as much as people tend to believe. I believe in 2004 their was a larger gap in weight, but not anymore.

Everyone keeps going back and forth about this AWD vs RWD stuff.

The X weighs a little more and has different gearing. It also launches from a stop with all four wheels under power (60/40 split or somthing like that). Which has got to feel different.

The difference between the revup and non are so minor I dont think you could tell the difference.

I for one would rather have a good low end feel and acceleration than a top end. You dont normally drive around at the top end of an engine.

Note I didnt say one was faster than the other. If one is faster.. WHO CARES. Its not by much either way.

It gets tiring. All the mods that people argue about. Most do very little if anything and some of them probly hurt performance. I am only really interested in a few mods for the appearance and sound. Unless you have a lot of cash you cant actually improve the performance much. People spend tons of money on wires and spacers and things and then spend even more money on heavy/large rims that slow the car down way more than the other mods could ever make up for.

Its just interesting. Enjoy the car and modding it, even if the mods dont do much.. but just stop argueing over which one is better.

Obviously the manual should be quicker- As stated above, I'm guessing the gearing and application is the reason for the difference in feel-
The 6MT seems to rev a lot smoother to red, at least in my opinion.

Interesting, the 6MT got lighter in 2006?
Here are the 2005 numbers:

G35x: 3,650
G356MT: 3,512

138lb. delta

Not sure what changed in 2006, here are 2006 #s

G35x: 3,650
G356MT: 3,472
178lb delta

whoever posts these kind of threads typically drive like grannies.

I never had a loaner that felt faster than my car.

I have to disagree with you here. After the last track trip(1/8th mile), I went back to some of Cheryl's old timeslips. I was out trapping her by roughly 4mph in the 1/8th. At the 1/4, I was out trapping her by almost the same amount. An average of our runs the last trip in December showed she was gaining 22.1mph in the last 1/8th versus my average gain of 21.95mph.

I don't know exactly what this means, but my car definitely has more "get out of the hole" power than her car; however, she doesn't spin nearly like I do either. It mostly just grabs and goes.
