Heated Seats / Thermostat

Went in to have my non-working heated seat fixed and was told that the heater's controller circuit keeps the heater from turning on if the outside temperature is high enough.

I didn't see this mentioned in the manual. Anybody know the temperature below which the heated seats are functional?

I've used them all the way up to 75+ degrees, I believe. Of course, I may have just imagined the warmth (or just peed my pants ).

Re: Heated Seats / Thermostat

I know for sure I've tried them in the mid-70's, and they didn't work. I guess I'll have to wait for a cold evening to see if they really work.

Re: Heated Seats / Thermostat

If they are anything like my 97 Maxima, they are more for prevention than true warmth. They made the leather feel like it was not so cold out, although after having them on for a while and sitting you feel a bit warm. I haven't had a need to use it on the G yet though.

The G's heated seats will warm you up, not heat you up beyond belief. Old Subarus actually used to get so hot, it was extremely uncomfortably. IMO, they're perfectly fine for me- it heats up comfortably without toasting your buns

Re: Heated Seats / Thermostat

I've noticed that these seats don't quite do the trick on real cold days or even on moderately cold days. My VW Passat had 5 settings which allowed you to burn you @ss if you so choose or to dial it down to almost nothing. I think the thermostat is a dumb idea.

Re: Heated Seats / Thermostat

I would expect high to be very warm but I could hardly even tell it was on... so what's the point of low..any lower and I wouldn't be able to feel it at all.

Re: Heated Seats / Thermostat

I agree that the thermostat is a bad idea. If I want to turn the seat heater on when it's 100 degrees outside, why can't I? I live in Austin, TX, where it stays between 75-100 for 7-8 months, but I love turning on the AC and the heated seats. I guess I can't do that in this car. So, I wasted the money on the winter package.

Can anybody actually confirm that the functionality really is temperature related? Maybe it's just that they don't heat very well, which means I just can't feel them when it's warm outside.

Re: Heated Seats / Thermostat

Okay, so it was 26 degF on my way home from work today, which should be cold enough to turn these seat warmers on. Mine (driver side) worked great. Passenger side, however, did nothing. Anyone else having this problem?

Re: Heated Seats / Thermostat

Andy, was anyone in the passenger seat? I thought I remember reading that it only works if someone is sitting in it. Then again, I could have dreamt the whole thing in which case...nevermind.

Re: Heated Seats / Thermostat

Not this time, I just did it to see if it worked. About a month ago, a girl was trying out the heated seat when it was like 45degrees (girls seem to love this feature). Anyway, she said it wasn't working then. I thought I'd try it out a few days ago when it was much colder, to see if the thermostat was disabling it. Oh well, this isn't gonna drag me to the dealer, I'll just wait until my next service.

Re: Heated Seats / Thermostat

my girlfriend loves the heated seats. she's used them up to about 80 degrees outside. they don't get very warm at all warm or cold outside. but i know mine have worked up to about 80 outside. I have a coupe also, not sure if that makes any difference

Re: Heated Seats / Thermostat

I used my heated seat when I got the car in September (had to be at least 75 degrees). On high, it was noticeable to me. I've even discreetly turned the passenger seat on when it was hot out to play a joke on my wife. She didn't figure it out right away (probably thought she pee'd her pants too!). In either case, a thermostat didn't prevent me from turning them on because it thought we were too warm!

Also, my drivers seat warms up within the first 2 miles of my 10 mile drive home from work . Like someone above stated, it doesn't warm you through and through. It's more like: my butt is toasty, but my front is cold, so it makes you shiver. Anybody know what I mean?
