Crash test result - Oouch!!!

Re: Crash test result - Oouch!!!
oy... yesterday's "crash test" was done by insurance companies in order to discern how much it costs to repair certain cars in low speed collisions. If you see ANY reputable news source report this, they will say "This does not measure safety, only cost of repair". The G, in high-speed collisions or any other testing, performs admirably in keeping the passangers safe. Unfortunately, in 5mpg collisions, its bumper folds, so you end up having to pay more.
Perhaps what you don't realize is that a bumper than crumples is beneficial to the well-being of the passangers. Race cars are designed to fly apart upon impact, which saves the driver my disspiting the energy through a source other than, well, the driver!
In a nutshell- The G is safe, safer actually than any of the other cars in the test. Now, if you back into a pole at 5mph, then you'll end up paying more for that benefit. The Insurance Institute rated it "poor" because it costs them the most to repair, not because it's unsafe. Hope that clears up this issue...
