My guess is it's a problem with the fuel pump. A wire is probably loose. The audibile slapping sounds to me like a lack of fuel.

Nope, no smoke I can recall or smell. I don't think it was backfire either.

It was more like something was going wrong in the engine bay with the thudding noise and loud vibrations.

I just got off the phone with my service consultant.

He said my battery is dead and that might be the problem. I told him no way in hell, the car was running fine until it shut itself off. I said the battery might have died because I was sitting in the car for an hour listening to music waiting for the tow truck.

He said, well, they think it's a problem with the battery cuz of all that audio stuff you got in there. The thing is, I am stock...but I still have my subwoofer mounted in the trunk even though all of the wiring and everything is removed.

I really hope they don't try to slime their way out of this situation because of my sub in the trunk...it hasn't been hooked up for like a month. That couldn't be the problem either, it was a violent jarring WHILE the car was running. I don't see how that could be related to the battery, but then again I don't know a whole lot about cars.

BS. Tell them you were going to give the sub to one of us...that's why it was in there. I'm sticking to my original guess of fuel pump.

The battery? They are so full of ****. If you were driving, your alternator would be giving you a constant current as long as the motor is running.

Is it possible that some foreign substance got put into the gas tank? (water?)
Not by you MikeyMike..but at the dealer.

Good luck.
Standing by to see what they do for you.

Well, I spoke to the Tech working on my car...seemed like a cool guy.

He told me from what I was describing to him it seems like the Alternator might be the problem. Does that make sense to any of you guys?

He told me not to worry, it would all be covered under warranty...so it looks like they are going to man up and fix the problem.

Because I came on such short notice they didn't have any Infiniti loaners, so I'm dipping a Hertz Nissan Murano...at least it's not a corolla, lol.

I'll call my service consultant in an hour or two and see what they say now that they've had some time to work on it.

Thanks for all the good wishes guys.

If the alternator goes bad, then your battery would die eventually (no current coming from the alternator to charge the battery) but that doesnt explain the violent shaking and noise you were speaking of.

the bearings in the alternator probably locked up which caused the bucking and shaking and caused it to die out make sure they check the belt and what not..good luck

At least they are fixing it under warranty plus I like the Murano.

Wouldn't an alternator problem cause the warning light to come on? Sounds fishy to me.
