2005 350z springs + d-spec shocks. Have had the setup on for 3 months now and in the last two weeks the drivers cat has started to scrape. This happens when I go up something very steep too quickly or when the front left tire goes over a little depression in the road. You can hear the metal on road sound when it makes contacts sounds like a ping sound. The pictures show the contact with the cat and the ground (only the drivers side hits). My tires are 245/40 18. Has this happened to anyone else?

 

Happens all the time over anything steep. You got to live with it and watch your approach angles.

 

Do you think it is dangerous that it is my cat converter that is scraping?? I would not care if some it was plastic, I am concerned about damage to the cat. Oh and by the way I had 03 350z springs/shocks on my car for 1 year before my current setup and over the same bumps/inclines I never had a problem. I also had 245/45 18 at the time.

 

over time, that scrapping could get bigger, maybe even a hole..so you jus have to be more careful and slowing down when there is a dip or something steep..

 

IMHO the G is low STOCK. Lowering it any amount makes it worse. This and for the camber reasons, I'm not going any lower than the Z springs. Even stock, I can't get the car on ramps w/o getting on some 2x6s 1st. That reminds me. My next project is to add some wood helper ramps to my stock ramps so I can just put the ramps down w/ the helps and just drive up the ramps.

 

What kind of tires do you have? That's an interesting tread pattern you've got there.

 

A couple of minor scapes, but only on badly installed driveways.
Only then if I didn't angle enough when traversing...

what number or how many clicks do you have your d-specs set to?

 

This happened to me when I had my 96 Maxima lowered on H&R springs and KYB/AGX adjustable struts/shocks (my driveway is steep). I had to get used to slowing down when it came to anything steep (up or down). Eventually you get used to slowing down or going at an angle and it becomes second nature.

 

wtf r u talking about low from stock? our cars have some of the nastiest fender gap ever stock. (whether that is a matter of suspension or not is another ?) but u crazy

my y-pipe and cat's scrape just the same as yours, just gotta go slow over the speed bumps and steep roads/driveway's

not really fair to say that the 350Z suspension is bottoming out....i think the real culprit here is that you went from 45 to 40serie tires.....a little smaller radius will in turn lower the car in general as well.......can't comment on the shocks you have since i don't have those......

 

Well I have had my current setup for 3 months now, does it seem right that it would just start this the past two weeks?
