5.6 sec 0-60 time - Automobile Magazine
5.6 sec 0-60 time - Automobile Magazine
Automobile Magazine just did a comparison of $30k sedans and had the G35 ranked 3rd out of about 10. 3rd? What? Behind a BMW 3-series (2nd) and an Acura TSX (1st)? The fact that they picked a front-wheel drive 4 cylinder car first shows they were focused on something other than performance. Maybe they just liked the TSX's blue gauge lights? They do, however, list the 0-60 time for the G35 as 5.6 secs, which is a bit quicker than the 5.7-5.9 secs I've seen in Motor Trend and Car and Driver. So, that means "5.6" is my new 0-60 time to use in conversations from now on (unless anybody knows of any other publicized #s that are faster).
TSX? Please.
On a side note: Has anybody heard anything about Toyota's new Supra coming out? I heard rumors that it will debut at the Tokyo Auto Show in late October. Of course, they have to do something to try and compete with the Z and RX-8.
Later--got to go read my G35 a bedtime story in the garage before I turn in myself.

Opinions, everybody has them. The G did not lose by too much and if they would have used just one different criteria, would be a whole other game. Yeah, a 4 cyl. Wheee! Whatever, I guess.
The thing that REALLY bothered me was the text they put on the pictures of the car groups. The pic of the BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, and Infiniti said something like "think they can take on a camaro and mustang" and the wrx and other like cars had text that said "actually can take on a camaro and mustang". WTF, the G has the best 0-60, what a stupid and misleading statement!

Are you sure they were timing a Seadan and not the Coupe? Coupe is rated at 5.6 0-60. Sedan is at 6.2 everywhere I've read... Not knocking Sedans. Just that I own one and 6.2 sounds more on to me.

I test drove a TSX... very short test drive I told the salesman this thing is pathetic my Dodge Intrepid (trade-in) would blow the doors off this thing... really cramped... but yeah the gauges were nice and the NAV system was awesome... but performance yuck

Re: 5.6 sec 0-60 time - Automobile Magazine
Yeah, I read that article and was very pissed (and still am). The only 2 cars that had any bold numbers in their performance charts were the G and the Evo (TSX didn't even show up on the radar). The TSX did beat every car on amenities, but this was a shoot out for the best "sport" sedan, not "amenity" sedan. The author of the article did not even include a paragraph as to the reason he picked the TSX over the G and BMW. Not even a whisper about the Evo. A FWD beat a RWD (WTF)? I have not even seen a TSX on the road yet, but the performance numbers suck. I guess honda and BMW made the magazine editors feel more "comfortable" in their choice. I totally lost respect for this mag.

Automobile is an "elitist magazine that has very limited circulation. Look at the authors and whether anyone has ever heard of them other than the former Jean Linamood. Hated the damn magazine after having to put up with David E Davis articles on how cool he is.

lol...We love our G's all right!
I have seen two TSXs on the road, and they look like my Brother's Civic with Dual Exhaust...
God only knows what the mags are thinking (And getting Paid to say) everytime they do a test...so don't worry about it.

Re: 5.6 sec 0-60 time - Automobile Magazine
All I can say is Honda is very hyped (magazine payoff) in all of the car magazines. I have a 2003 Accord EX V6 which is a very good car, but all I can tell you is it's very boring. The mags hyped the hell out of the performance characteristics of the new accord and Honda advertised it as a sport sedan, who are they kidding. I have to agree, if in fact this was a comparo of performance sedans, which the G35 certainly is, Automobile mag should have given a rating it deserves, at the top.
Re: 5.6 sec 0-60 time - Automobile Magazine
A very dumb comparo. I test drove a TSX. I wasn't so bothered by the 0-60 power as I was by the total lack of 50-70 freeway acceleration. The non-turbo four banger has absolutely no performance when it comes to passing at speed. It's a nice commuter car -- a better accord -- but it's definitely not a sport sedan. Not even comparable to a G. And I like Honda's. My other car is an Acura CL-S. I think Automobile is trying too hard to be eccentric or something.

Re: 5.6 sec 0-60 time - Automobile Magazine
I subscribe to that mag (it was a special offer for only $10), and I wondered about the whole article. Not much detail about any of the cars-just a couple of paragraphs. I was disappointed by the article in general.
I assumed they printed the coupe 0-60 time of 5.6 seconds. They also did not specify if they drove a manual or auto sedan-I assume it was an auto in the article.

Re: 5.6 sec 0-60 time - Automobile Magazine
Can anyone post the test numbers from the test?
Maybe just the 0-60 and the 1/4 mile time and speeds for all the cars.
Thanks
