05 6MT in the 1/4mile. Help needed.

Okay, I've read numerous claims of 05 6MTs running 14.0 or even 13.9. How the hell do you guys do this? I took the G to Moroso for the first time. I'm still on factory wheels and tires and the motor is bone stock. My best time was 14.351. I tried different shift points, but still couldn't get anything faster than 14.351. I don't even see how it's possible on a bone stock G35 on the Turanzas. Any advice??

R/T (not that important)....948
60'......2.208
330.....6.101
1/8......9.324
mph.....77.33
1000....12.050
1/4......14.351
mph.....98.51

I'm thinking a 3/4 full tank of gas may have slowed me down a bit.

every 10th in the 60 foot takes off 2 tenths at the end of the 1/4.

You would be at 13.9 if you can get your 60 foot down too 2.0.

You ran well, congrats!

There are many factors involved getting into the 13's. Most important would be driver followed by traction and weather. I think your times are excellent and definetely you could hit a 13.90 under the right conditions. I would suggest running with 1/4 tank of gas and removing the spare tire. You need to lower your 60' time as suggested and you'll be there. My best 60' was 2.02 with a well prepped track. The stock Turanzas are sh*t, so its usually too much spinning. I also alter my rear tire pressures from side to side with a difference of about 2 psi less on the rear passenger side. You'll also want to shallow stage and keep the engine as cool as possible. On the return road I usually pop my hood latch and that helps dissipate the heat from the engine compartment.

Good luck and have fun!

^^^Good points. I knew a near full tank of gas would hurt me by at least .1, but I couldn't help it. Gas prices actually went down in my area and I wanted to take advantage. I'm kicking myself now for not ditching the spare also. I guess I shouldn't feel too bad about my times since I basically ran my car in its daily driven form. I was looking at getting some 245/45 Yokohamas. Maybe this will help as well. Good advice, thanks.

Those are pretty good times, especially if you're a novice in this car. I've done it at least 100 times, and I still can't launch for sht. Your traps are right about what they should be, but they'll climb a bit as you push it.

BTW - what's the elevation at moroso?

esecially it's at sea level.

The track prep sux at moroso.
The 2.2 is good for Moroso in your G35. I spun like crazy at Moroso. The street has more stick than that track.

Thanks. I think the elevation is about 25 ft. if I'm not mistaken. I know the times I ran are as good or better than mag times, but I just got jealous over the times posted by members on this site. In any case, I now know what my car performs like without any special prepartation.

14.3 is pretty damn good! I have been to Great lakes dragway and had crazy wheel spin/hop on every run! Could not get lower than 14.9

Don't worry about trying to match anybody else's numbers. Now you know your baseline, you can always(at that track) compare your performance against your previous runs.

I've had *one* good night where I got in the 13's, but that was in 25 degree weather and I was just on that night. I don't know if I'll ever do it again.

IMHO 1/4 mile times don't mean crap to a street racer.

It's the MPH. That tell all. Most races are from a rolling start.

For instance: An Evo can run the 1/4 in low 13's stock. BUT the MPH is only around 102. From a role they are not very fast.

Even cars like 04 GT-SLOW's in stock form can pull a stock Evo from a role.

MPH is the most telling IMHO

Okay, I'm feeling much better now. And FYI my other times that night were 14.384, 14.380, 14.409, and 14.5. Like I said, I was doing I lot of experimenting. BTW, what do some of you guys launch and shift at? For my fastest run I launched at 3500, gradually balancing clutch and throttle, minimal wheelspin, and shifted around 6750 rpm. What about you guys?

Great Lakes Dragaway sucks, I raced my GTO there - they dont prep the track for ****. I eventually got a 1.8 60ft in my GTO, but that was after 6-7 times of 2.0 60ft and changeing to the left lane there. I am in the 1.7's usually at Gateway International here in STL.

1.7s on street tires? I don't think I've ever seen a 2WD street car pull 1.7s on real street rubber.

I'd imagine Stl LS1Gto has DRs to pull those kinds of 60 foots. But for some cars, it is quite possible to pull 1.7-1.8s on street rubber.

My friend is pulling lower 1.7s in his Lotus Elise on OEM tires (which are basically race-spec street tires). Mid engine cars like the Elise, MR2, and 911 can yank some seriously wicked 60 foots because so much weight is over the rear tires.
