Car was stock except for missing the mufflers and lowered I've launched my car plenty of times to have a feel for it. This winter I will take the car to the track when temps are in the 60s.
Not a bad time in the new edge Stang. I ran 14.0s in my buddies 90 LX notchback 5.0 (3.73s, UDPs, mufflers, advanced timing, gutted airbox) I love those cars. My buddies have a couple new edge 5MT Stangs. They both ran 14.1s stock.

Good luck on the runs this Fall.

I'm with SixFive on this one, 8 times out of 10, I'm certain I'll be a similiarly modded G35 6MT. I've always been dead on about this car when I said it would run 14.4s in warm weather and 14.3s in cool weather stock (unless you believe a Z-pipe adds power). I'm pretty certain my 5AT will run 14.2s, possibly a 14.1 with the spacer which is faster than 95% of the modded NA G35s (5AT or 6MT) on this site.
While I will agree with you that auto Fbodies ET better than the 6MT's (in general), I do not agree with the autos getting better MPH. In my racing years (Camaro SS) torque converters gave a big advantage to better ET's, and most of that has to do with very nice (and consistent) launches. When I was running high 10's, my 60' were around 1.48. My 6MT buddies couldn't pull that 60' off, but they were almost always putting up better trap speeds (given a similarly modded car, of course). 6MT's with heads/cam could run low 11's @ 128 mph all day. My best trap speed in the 10's was 123.70.

This all makes sense since trap speeds are an indicator of power. 6MT's will put more power to the ground as a result of the autos higher drivetrain loss. But that being said, autos are king of the track with a very large majority of fast cars being auto. Same applies to the street. With a good TC and some sticky tires, autos can do very well on the street.

How are you having problems with wheel spin on a 05 Auto? Most of what I read here is a small chirp is about the most you can expect from an auto launch.

I somewhat agree, but when the temps dip below the 40s or so, my G has no trouble roasting the tires through most of 1st. In warmer weather I get about 5 to 10 feet or so of rubber. At the track though, barely a chirp.

Actually, even w/ my 5AT, I can get the tires to spin pretty easily with brake torquing. Granted, I've got Stillen intake/exhaust (And in an hf and a half I'll be installing spacers!!!!!! ) but that shouldn't make that much of a different.

That said, severe wheel spin shouldn't be a problem if launched correctly... enough brake torquing to chip and offer an aggressive launch without being overly aggressive.

With my 245-40-19 RE050s, I can't get chit for a chirp. I managed to get some 1 legged spin out of my left rear but it was nothing like you describe.

Unfortunately, I didn't try this with my 215-55-17s for comparison.

I used 235/45/17's. Not as aggressive as your no doubt, but still I am able to get some pretty decent spin if I really wanted to. (And I donno about you guys since it sounds like alotta you can only get chirps when brake torquing, but I dont have to brake torque to chip I've found. Though brake torquing will give the better launch anyway.)

I've NEVER contended that the 5AT was the faster car, but it's not remotely as slow as people think. SixFive, BossSho, and myself have proven this. In a 1/4 mile race, mod for mod, and on regular tires, it should be damn close. I've been watching G35s and 350Zs race at my track since 2002. I know what they're capable of at my track.

As for racing on the street, it's ABSOLUTELY meaningless. If you outreact the other driver by just a mere 0.5 seconds (something you really couldn't even see), you'll have a huge advantage. HUGE. Racing on the strip tells the truth. Everytime.
I will let u know the results on oct 7th. I am going to the drag on the 6th hopefully i can convince my friend with his auto 350z show up. That track that im gonna go is LACR which is about 3k above sea level and its usually dusty and windy since its located in palmdale desert. I have been there about 6 times and the best i have seen a N/A G35 6MT do with expert driver (THX723 from this forum)is 14.6 at about 97mph, best time I have seen for N/A auto do is 15.1 (Socalted from this forum). My best time is 14.9 with crappy 2.3 60 time. I admit that i didnt know how to launch back then. I havent been there for almost a year so i am really looking forward to run there again.

In this article, the Motor Trend guys apparently got better numbers with the
2005 G35 auto over the 2006 BMW....as far as 1/4mile and 0 to 60...

14.7 sec @ 95.1 mph(BMW)14.7 sec @ 95.9 mph(G35)
0-60 6.6(BMW) 6.5(G35)
I suspect the same performance from the 2006 G35, which has basically the
same specs as the 2005 model....
