Just realize that there is little to no HP gains & you won't notice a thing until you get up there in the rpm's.
(I have the MD 5/16 spacer sitting in my garage waiting for the weekend. It should sound even better by Sat afternoon.)
Klubbheads: Maybe you can't hear the difference of the engine b/c of your custom exhaust?

So ummm...you guys won't notice the induction noise without putting the K&N drop in filter? Because I installed the Ztube + K&Ndrop-in at the same time...very nice sound. I'm just wondering why it would be differerent from the stock filter...

I'd say it's worth every penny, induction noice is greatly increased with Z tube and K&N. Dropped in the MD spacer 2 weeks ago now the intake note is slightly deeper and louder, and the car pulls at little harder from 3-6K RPM. Nothing spectacular, but worth the $300 or so all together
Thought I'd add my two cents
You will hear the difference. It is significantly louder with the Z-Tube than with the stock baffled intake tube. Under normal throttle, there may be very little difference- As others have said above 3-4k it's quite a bit louder.
By the way, I have the stock paper filter. I've had K&Ns on every other car I've owned, said screw it this time around. Actually just replaced the paper filter too.

Did my Z-Tube and K&N Drop in together, too me it sounded a little louder and raspier only above 3k. Added the Stillen Gen 2, as one would expect it got much louder and a little deeper. Recently added the MD 5/16" Iso Spacer, IMO it added a little volume but made it even deeper sounding (not to mention adding to the Butt Dyno). I don't regret adding any of the above mentioned mods.
Seriously, and respectfully, I don't understand how ppl can say they don't hear any difference from the z-tube being added.
I just put it in today (i already had a K&N in) and immediately noticed the whistle noise while revving. Then I asked my gf to go with me for a quick 10 minute test run. For most of the run, I decided the whistle was a bit annoying but amusing at the same time. Other than that, I could hear a deeper, throaty but mild discernable difference over 3K (not at WOT), but barely noticeable with the windows up.
Near the end of the run, I gunned it a few times, in city traffic and then getting on the freeway, WOT. This thing is damn loud for such a simple bolt on mod. My gf doesn't know much about cars, but she was saying "it sounds totally different. it sounds louder and meaner." I totally agree with her. If anything, I wasn't expecting the car to be that much louder from a simple mod. I guess the resonator on the g35 tube makes that much of a difference. In any case, I'm going to keep the z-tube on for now. I like the fact that it's not very noticeable unless you're at WOT. But in fact, near the end of the run, the noise was definitely louder than at the beginning of the run. Perhaps it was the ECU adjusting, I can't be sure.

I'm not too sure if I like the whistle sound...its a bit annoying at times.
Yeah, I actually thought I had a leak in the 3/4" mid-pipe coming out of the tube. I got confused from the DIY instructions because the picture attachments weren't hosted anymore. I started yanking out the mid-pipe area while it was still clamped, thinking that I had already completed that step. I yanked it out about a 1/2" from the other rubber hose it was attached to and spent a good amount of time stuffing it back in to make sure there wouldn't be any leaks.
My pliers I was using were too small to unclamp the mid-pipe but luckily I found a large rusty plier/wrench tool the allowed me to loosen the clamp. That was the hardest part for me. Btw, this was my first DIY ever and I was racing against the sun going down. I was pretty proud for having got it done in under 30 minutes. Although I have experience building PCs and such, I'm not exactly mechanically inclined. Maybe this will be a start for me. I went to Home Depot today to get the socket wrenches so I could specifically do it myself. Anyhow, yeah, I almost feel like a poser masquerading as if I had a turbo and blow-off valve with the whistle and all. Is it all worth it for 1-2hp? Hopefully it will complement my future mods.
Anyhow, yeah, the whistle is definitely from the z-tube. I'm almost positive I had everything clamped down tight and in place. I wonder where that whistle is coming from?

The whistle will go away and you will still have the deep intake noise if you put your stock air filter back in. I think it's the best of both worlds. No intake whistle but a nice deep growl on full throttle runs.
The whistle comes from the butterfly valve being partly opened in the throttle body. It is the air rushing past it.
Take care
