I respectfully disagree.

As you can see, I have the Z tube + K&N drop in. I did them both at the same time & feel the engine sounds much better under load. Just after 3k rpm it sounds a little deeper & a lot nastier.
Just realize that there is little to no HP gains & you won't notice a thing until you get up there in the rpm's.
(I have the MD 5/16 spacer sitting in my garage waiting for the weekend. It should sound even better by Sat afternoon.)

Klubbheads: Maybe you can't hear the difference of the engine b/c of your custom exhaust?

with the Z tube and stock box you WILL hear a difffernce above 3k rpm. good "stealth" modification. with a new intake, you will hear it all over the place.

I have a 2004 6mt I didn't notice much of a sound difference.. All it really does IMO is a little bit better gas MPG and that never hurts!

I had it with the stock exhaust too. It didn't make a noticable difference. The reason i put the z-tube because i hated the G-tubes resonated plasting being there.

Thumbs up

The very first thing I did to my car was to change into Z-tube and buy a drop in K&N filter. I still have the OEM filter so when I clean the K&N I drop the OEM filter for a day until the other one dries.
About sound I did not notice that much a difference.
