Will 07 have HD radio?
Will 07 have HD radio?
I live in Houston and many of my radio stations are already broadcasting in HD. Does anybody know if Infiniti will include this funtionality into the new sound system? I know HD Radio has not taken off yet so to speak, but I'd sure like the option because it's free and is supposed to sound better, especially AM.
thx.
thx.
Not to jack your thread but whats the real point of HD radio? I mean people usually only listen to clear channels anyways if not just cd's. Then theres satellite radio which should sound really clear unless you are in a tunnel, which is the case for regular radio anyways. But anyways yeah I doubt they would include it now. Maybe in a few years when the technology takes off. Hell they still give us ugly key fobs compared to almost every other car company. I'd like to see them change that first. At least make it different from Nissans.
The reason I care is that my past 2 cars have had poor FM reception at times (smogy Houston?) and even worse AM reception. I figure maybe HD will be better, but I do not know anybody yet who has it. If it's there and you don't like it, you don't have to use it.

After having XM factory installaed in my G35, I never listen to the radio anymore, regardless of the noticable compression - the playlist and varity of stations are incredible.

LIke you said, Radio is an ancient POS that has it's time back on the 70's and it's about time someone upgraded it. I'll have Sat radio installed from the factory from here on in as well. Now once the satellites get upgraded to transmit @ 128 Kbs, that is good enought where most cannot detect the compression ratio - and that would be the nail-in-the-coffin for radio as we know it.
This thread is not about satellite radio, it's about HD radio and whether or not Infiniti will add the functionality to the stereo in the 2007 G35. That said, maybe since Infiniti does offer sattelite radio, they think they do not need to also offer HD radio. I like to listen to AM news occasionally and happen to enjoy FM radio also from time to time, but the reception and quality suck. Some people would rather not pay $10-$12 a month to listen to satellite music. Also, most Houston radio stations are already broadcasting in HD, not just Clear Channel.
