Get Deal On 06 or Wait for 07?
So I've finally convinced my father to get a g35, but it's really a tough decision to either buy an 06 for roughly 5-6K off MSRP or wait for the 07, which will probably have very little discount. Dealers around here are already advertising 5K off, but I'm sure the prices will be lowest a month or two before the 07 comes out in Nov. Budget really isn't an issue, but is it worth paying more for essentially the same car? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Ya know, it comes down to money for the most part. Many people say it's "stupid" to buy an '06 when the '07's are on the lot, becuase the "savings" you get simply represent depreciation. On the other hand, if you plan on keeping the car for over 5 years, it doesn't matter. I have an '05 with 30K miles on her, and I still love it to death. Since budget isn't an issue, find out how long he plans on keeping the car. Also, make a list of the (or better yet, drive both) differences between the '06 and 07'. If it were my Dad, he wouldn't care about many of the improvements that have some of us drooling. 20-35 HP may not be a big deal to him, and the same could be said for paddle shifters and hard drives in the audio system.
Personally, I'm going to wait until 2008 before I consider trading in my beauty. There are a lot of things that "could" go wrong with the new '07, and I don't want to pay $35K to be a beta-tester. Look how much better the 2006 is compared to the 2003. I'm a born skeptic, and I find it hard to believe that the new '07 is going to handle significantly better than my '05. I'm sure it's a better car, don't get me wrong, but my G has been trouble free from day 1.

Funny thing is, you were dead on with the features he really didn't care about. The extra HP, paddle shifters, and HDD sound aren't exactly motivating factors for purchasing an 07. Seeing as he buys his cars lump-sum, he is most likely going to keep it for more than five years. Your point on the beta-testing is well taken; I think infiniti is more interested in getting mass production numbers out than refining production quality details like Lexus. However, I have read that Infiniti does do a good job of steadily improving small interior details (stiches, panel fit) with time. Thanks Alot!

Well, IMO, since I own a current version G35, I'm keeping mine for a while no matter what the '07 is like, if I still had my '04, then I might trade up, but the improvements since the '05 MY are enough to keep me onboard for a while. And I think it's more like the '03-'04 were the "betas", they improved so many things in the '05, it is still the same platform, a new platform might be a "beta".

easily the 07 is the pick. if you wait a little bit, the initial rush of people buying MSRP will die down, and you'll be able to get a few grand off MSRP for the 07's as well.
definitely wait for the 07. not only does the 07 have more features, but the depreciation hit on the 06s from the 07s is something to consider.

are you serious?
this is a no brainer...why would you ask a forum of enthusiasts that can't wait for the 07 to come out if you should wait to buy one?
ofcourse you should!
it is a significant change from the 06, its going to look mean on the streets and if he's going to keep it for five years why drive a car thats body will be outdated in a year. if he gets the new model in its first year he will enjoy the entire generation of that body style instead of regretting purchasing the old body style...imo
