I really must be missing something here. I do not race my G on the street or the track but my common sense tells me to disagree with you.

A stock 6MT Sedan weighs 3512lbs and a stock 6MT Coupe weighs 3524lbs. Why is it you think the Coupe is so much faster than the Sedan??

I do not see how the Coupe is so much faster like you make it appear to be......I would say worst case scenario it is a driver's race. Just my .02 cents.

Comparing the same year and transmission type, the G35 sedan has the same power and weighs less (insignificantly-less, but that's not the point).

Do your homework before flapping your gums... or better yet, just keep your mouth shut so we can only guess that you're an idiot, instead of opening it and proving that fact to all of us.

The G35 coupes do have a better exhaust setup vs. the Sedans...

So if a 300bhp sedan is up against a 300bhp coupe, the "better exhaust" wins?

Uhhhhhhhhhh.......... how does that work?

300bhp is 300bhp.*

* assuming both the sedan and coupe also have the same torque curve, which in the case of the G35 they do

Even tho the sedan is a tad lighter, I would assume the aerodynamics of the coupe would give it an edge albeit a very slight one.

Uhhhhhh..... also wrong.

G35 Sedan Coefficient of drag = 0.27 (0.26 with Aero Package)

G35 Coupe Coefficient of drag = 0.29 (0.28 with Aero Package)

Does anyone do their homework before making assumptions here?

Agreed, there is a lot of big talk in here.
I've yet to see anything FM related impress me short of the M45.
Good cars, fairly quick actually not fast (coupes, Z, Sedan)

I also expected the coupe to be a bit quicker than it is. That's what kept me out of a 6-speed 06 a few days ago.

Then again, there a few cars out there that stock for stock will gap a Z car for less money, if that's all you are looking for.

Add a Vortech to a new Mustang and you'll smoke a lot of cars for under $40k built.

So long as the next version of the G does a low 14, that's all I would be hoping for if I was buying. I don't give a **** about a tenth or two. I'm not our racing ladies in their IS350s. And the Bimmer dorks can think the rule the roost all they want. Afterall, they paid for it.

The most important thing about the next G is that it have an much better, creakless interior. That and a few more ponies might be enough to get me back to the dealer.

I did not, which is why it is called an assumption. Either way, if those are the Drag Coefficients, then I would agree with you guys...the sedan should be quicker.

Sad to believe that a car designed like the coupe is not as aerodynamic as it appears...wonder why...

I don't actually believe that the sedan is quicker, or vice versa. They're close enough that differences from driver to drive will tend to be greater than the differences from car to car.

+1

My point exactly.

The assumption that's being made is that the Coupe is faster because it looks faster, when in reality the Coupe and Sedan are equivalent.

Here's some interesting information. If the new sedan has the exact same gear ratios, final drive, and tire height as the current z/g, then here are the top speeds in each gear(redline=7500):

1st: 43.8
2nd: 71.55
3rd: 102.47
4th: 130.71
5th: 166
6th: 210.13

That means that the car will possibly be geared to exceed 200mph(not that it will have the power to get there). That makes me think the gears, or FD, may actually be even shorter than today. But if these numbers are indeed accurate, then that means that the car will have to shift to 4th right before the end of the 1/4, if my predictions of 104mph trap are accurate.

I run 13's all day in my sedan. My fastest recorded was 13.4. Only mods are k&n drop ins, bullydog power pup ( regular tune w/ 2 deg advance ), and disconnected the mufflers. Most Z's at the track were in the low to mid 14's mainly Cus they didn't know how to drive, much less launch properly. I'm sure with high flow cats and better tires I could hit low 13e on a cold night. Here's my proof ( I'm number 17 - Eric Flores )
