Motor Trend won't be driving the G35 on a daily basis like I will, so as long as the car make ME happy that is all that matters. Just my useless .02 cents.
Here's an example of how high temperatures will adversely affect a car's performance. The powerful IS350 could only manage 6.0s with 93 degree ambient temperature.
"The new 3.5 is a great engine with enough power to make the IS 350 a very quick car, able to hit 60 mph in 6.0 seconds flat and consume the quarter mile in 14.5 sec. at 98.6 mph…this, on a power-sapping 93-degree summer day."

So it looks like the actual weight to power for the G35S from Motor Trend's Head-to-Head spec sheet is different then the number that they reference in the First Test article. Looks like just a misprint.
From the Spec sheet:
weight to power - 11.8 (this is rounded - Actual seems to be 11.77)

Does the current G have wider tires in the rear also or is that a 07 Sport version only thing?

Anyone think that Car & Driver will come up with better times? I remember C & D almost always had the fastest times in terms of 0-60, 1/4 mile, etc as compared to other magazines. There was an article once on how the launched their cars...pretty much destroying the clutch/ transmission...but C& D can afford too, because no manufacturer wants to get on their bad side, seeing that they are the No. 1 car mag.
I predict that C & D will drop the time to 5.2s sec 0-60 mph and 13.7 1/4 mile.
Motor Trend: 5.6 sec 0-60 mph, 14.0 1/4 mile

G35s traditionally don't do too well in figure 8 tests, I know because I experienced it first hand at a BMW Club track driving school. We setup a figure 8 course for the cars to whip around. The BMW 3 series did a respectable job hunkering down and hugging the ideal line around those cones. When my G35 Coupe went up to the figure 8 course, it was oversteering like a wild horse at first...... Then the traction control on the G completely gave out after a couple of spins. After the VDC was OFF (completely off) the coupe behaved like an insane Samurai waving around a katana. A jab in the gas pedal sends the rear end screaming blood murder and spray bystanders with chunks of Michelin in the face. Crazy uncivilized madness - but it was fun.
Sure the BMW was more stable, more civilized and more in control - but I'd rather have a dose of insanity once awhile when I want to feel alive.

Not that impressed with the performance of the 335i... back in 98 Chevy released a car called the Z28 with 305hp which did the 1/4 mile in 13.5 or less stock with an automatic. That is 10 years ago... surely BMW's new twin turbo performance sedan can turn better 1/4 mile numbers? The cars have similar weight...
You're comparing a naturally aspirated 5.7L V8 '98 Z28 muscle car to an inline 6, 3.0L twin turbo '07 335i sport-lux coupe? Talk about apples to oranges. I don't even know where to start.
