It's not an apples to oranges comparison considering the cars curb weights are almost the same and the horsepower is the same... i'm not impressed that a car 10 years newer is slower in the 1/4 mile with similar power to weight ratio.

Though the new G35 is certainly impressive, the new 335i is going to own in every performance category.

I agree, *but*, the 335's IRS is going to be a hindrance compared to the camaro's live axle.

That is 10 years ago... surely BMW's new twin turbo performance sedan can turn better 1/4 mile numbers? The cars have similar weight...
Automobile mag got a 13.6 1/4 mi. time with the 335i. That is virtually the same as the Z28. That's 0.4 sec. quicker than the MT times for the new G35 (not that they should be compared however) even though they both have 300hp and similar weight.

Motor Trend numbers

It was interesting- in the article the author mentioned that the g35 only had 200 miles on the odometer. I would like to see acceleration numbers after break in. Also in the same magazine the pontiac solstice gxp lost in every main category when compared to the bmw z4 but it won the comparison (among 350 z, z4, and solstice based on looks and price despite being a car "of giant flaws." The g35 and bmw330 comparison was dead even but the bmw was given the nod- even though the g35 is less expensive and has no giant flaws!!!!!!

Just got my mag last night and read the article first thing, of course. The G35 vs 330i comparison seemed fair and I really like how they brought up price at the end. They mentioned that the 325i is more equal in price to the G35 which would be a more true comparison.

The 4 different trim levels with all the new options seems kind of confusing. I do like that the sport model will have more features to set it apart, though. I'm anxious to see what pricing is going to be like and how it compares to a 335 sedan. I'm also very interested in GM bringing in those Australian V8 sedans. My next vehicle purchase could be very difficult even with the new G35 looking so fine.

How come they didn't mention the exhaust on the new G? Doesn't seem like it'll sound like the coupe/fx/350z.

I know there are a lot of people that like the pronounced muffler sound of the G, and yes it is a fantastic sound, but I do hope it's much more muted in the new G. Either by the addition of sound insulation (or just adding some ) or just less Db out the end. Under heavy acceleration it's great, but just cruising and it drones.

I have an '03 FX35 which comes off lease at the end of the year; the exhaust sound of my FX35, whether under WOT or cruising just sounds awesome and no drone at all....never. I wish the '07G35 exhaust note will sound similar. With the all new dual exhaust and other improvements, it should sound similar. It's what most G35 drivers (enthusiasts) hope to emulate. I'll either be getting into an '07 M45, G35, or the BMW 335i. It will be a tough decision.

That almost defies logic (no pun intended). Infiniti is as real as BMW, Lexus, & MB. You buy a Lexus if you want a luxo ride. You buy a MB for the presige of owning an MB. You buy a BMW for the presige of owning a BMW, thier resale and thier performance. You buy an Infiniti for thier performance and value. In a world full of $3.15 gas, $300,000 starter homes, jobs being outsourced, I doubt many would cough up another 10k just so they could say thier G "beat out" the 330i. If you don't like the car, go further into debt and buy an M.

I'd like to see 10% less power and 20% better milage.

I agree with you. But some people just magnify the difference between the G and the 335. I would consider the G a winner even if it was priced the same, considering that it is the same size inside as the 5-series and have more features.

Some people go to say that the G and 335 are two completely different cars, as if the 335 is some untouchable god....

I wish the new G would sound EXACTLY like the FX.

Hmmm my G has no drone at all. None. WOT, idle, or cruising. In fact the exhaust is amazingly quiet inside considering the outside tone and db.

Now if it is road noise you're talking about I would agree. There is also some induction noise but I enjoy that and exacerbated it by adding the Ztube, K&N and the 5/16 spacer.

Look at wha C&D got for road noise dba levels. At constant 70mph, 67dba. According to Road & Track, the 2006 330i produces 74dba @ 70mph, that's a significant difference. The BMW 7 series is louder at 70 than the new G35.

^that's interesting. Thanks for pointing that out. That is actually a huge difference. I've noticed the '05+ G's are also quieter than the earlier models like mine.
