New Edmunds.com Full Test: Infiniti G35 Sport [Video and Review]

New test performed by edmunds.com

This isnt on a 6MT, so thats why im pretty sure they rated the "07 G35 Sport" at 5.6 seconds. [Tests on 07 G35 6MT have done 0-60 in 5.2 seconds; 6MT weights much less than the auto]

This review seems pretty fair.

Video:

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=116681

Complete Test Specs:

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do.../pageId=101742

One detail that stood out in my mind was the fact that this Automatic 07 G35 sedan did the 1/4 mile in 13.9 @ 102.1.

The 6MT, not tested by edmunds, must be a beast for a sedan.

I have watched that video 4 times now, and will show it to K as soon as she gets home, and watch it again.
If this gets any worse I'm gonna have the fever as bad as Shane .
But you Ian, your ride is set up soooo sweet, it's a beautiful car. They keep waving that apple in front of us and it keeps getting redder and sweeter . So tempting.

Nice find. Good review indeed.

Wow. Auto does 13.9 sec @102.1mph! 5.6sec to 60mph seems reasonable but I have a feeling that we'll see better number than that in auto.

I agree.

If the 07 G35 6MT does 0-60 in 5.2 and 1/4 in (I dont know ) ... then the 0-60 time for the auto should be around 5.4-5.5. But the 1/4 time for the auto is still insane, especially since it weighs around 3650 lbs.

The 6MT weighs at around high 3400's low 3500's, so im guessing the 6MT does the 1/4 mile in maybe 13.6 sec @ 103.2 mph?

Here are some part of reviews that I really like.

Inside Line Editor in Chief Richard Homan says:
"the G35 will bump the BMW 3 Series off its throne with a value proposition that cannot be ignored"

Senior Road Test Editor Josh Jacquot says:
"Bitchin' steering. Incredible brakes. Unflappable chassis. An automatic transmission with legitimate performance potential harnessed to a 300-hp six-cylinder.

And the G will hold its own against the 3 in any handling showdown — our slalom tests show only 0.3-mph difference between the two in the slalom. Heck, I even prefer the G's chassis over the legendary Bimmer. And that just doesn't happen very often."

Edmunds Observed (mpg): 21

Acceleration: Awesome engine and quick-shifting autobox are rewarding on the dragstrip. This car is fun to drive, makes the right sounds. Just feels good.

Braking: Perfect pedal feel and travel. Stellar grip. Awesome braking.

Handling:
Excellent grip and feel, but not really sensitive to throttle input at the limit. Can't feel rear steer on skid pad. In the slalom it feels like an R34 Skyline GT-R during oversteer through slalom. Fast. Intuitive. Confident.

Wow. They complemented G35's handling to the R34 Skyline GT-R!! Speechless....

I highly regard reviews by Edmonds.com more down-to-earth with unbiased (unlike many other car magazines) opinions. This is one of their highest rated review I've seen in long time. I saw many "Awesome", "Perfect" and "Excellent" comments in this review.

If their observed fuel economy was 21mpg, that's good enough for me.

My favorite quotes:

"In the age of the six-, seven- and now eight-speed automatics, the Infiniti's transmission, with only five forward gears, may seem behind the times. But the five-speed's proper gearing, attentive action and ability to match revs perfectly when manually downshifted makes the transmission a standout and the perfect choice for this very capable sport sedan. It delivers all of the hard-driving advantages of BMW's complex sequential manual gearbox (SMG) without any of that transmission's drivability issues."

"The G's revised 3.5-liter V6 makes an impressive 306 hp and 268 lb-ft of torque. But those numbers only tell part of the story. The rest becomes clear as the G's tach needle blasts straight past its old 6600-rpm redline on its way to a genuinely usable 7500 rpm. Those extra 900 revs allow the true enthusiast some serious involvement that would never happen with a lesser engine. Like, say, the 3.0-liter straight-6 in BMW's 330i.

And the G will hold its own against the 3 in any handling showdown — our slalom tests show only 0.3-mph difference between the two in the slalom. Heck, I even prefer the G's chassis over the legendary Bimmer. And that just doesn't happen very often."

But... consider that this was an Edmunds test number, and their numbers are always slower. For example, Edmunds tested the IS350 at 5.6s and at 6.0s, respectively. In fact, when the IS350 got 5.6s, temperature was a lot cooler.

Also, notice that the G35 is quieter at 70 mph cruise than the IS350.

I think the MT road test of the 6mt was 5.4 0-60 and 14 sec 1/4 mile. Either way the 335i is running M3 like times in the coupe form, I am sure the sedan will have the G beat also. But the G is still the best value for the money.

Couple things I noticed.

The test car had 2802 miles on it so it fairly well broken in.

Even though the test car didn't have the optional Navigation, it still had full functioning center color screen for audio, HVAC and maybe other control. Very nice standard feature and it significantly improves the overall interior luxury level. Most other cars remove the color screen if you don't buy the navigation.

Now, if I can only able to connect my Video iPod, PSP or DVD player to that screen.....
